Yo yo

blogging

My summer was pretty amazing. Life is good. I went out west for a few weeks in June, British Columbia - especially Vancouver - is a lot different than southern Ontario. We met lots of interesting travelers and some amazing stereotypical home-towners. Coming back to Toronto/Waterloo was disheartening. Although I did have a sweet job to look forward to.

My life consisted of teaching golf, playing golf, and chillin' with my g/f. The money was sweet, most of the other instructors complain about the money - but I'm young and a little bit of decent money means a lot :) Although the summer is over... and teaching season is done, now I just work in the proshop... and my g/f is back at school. I'm still a non-student, aimlessly drifting through crazy-ass jobs and people. That's right, I drift through people. But I have some cool prospects for the winter..... so I'm happy.

Since the golf season is basically over, and alanna is crazy busy w/ school, I'm pretty bored. Sooooo after work today, for the first time in almost 4 months, I mustered up the mustard to gather my buy-ins and play some poker.

It was the same old $40 cash game with my solid circle of degenerate friends. Shuffling and dealing as I walked in the room, everyone was shocked to see me. I basically held the game together for 2 years and then stopped showing up cold turkey.

The actual game was nothing out of the ordinary. Poker never changes, I guess that's a good thing for some, not that good for my short attention span... but I like it non-theless.

After 20 minutes or so I picked up Three of HeartsFour of Hearts, I limped and I flopped a flush. From early position, I led out and bet $3, he re-raised to 8 and I re-raised him to 13. I didn't want to push him off with a huge re-raise. Anyways, I pushed on the turn and he called with top 2 or something dumb, and I doubled up early.

I won a $13 pot when 3 people limped, one guy made it $10 and I pushed him in preflop with Ace of ClubsKing of Clubs. Everyone folded.

The players were very bad. Very very bad. There were a bunch of new faces who played terrible weak-tight poker, but wasted lots of money preflop flipping with fucken shit. Anyyyywayyyyysssss

I found myself in a huge pot with A-10 offsuited, I flopped top pair, a short stack with 25 went all-in, a mid stack with 60 just called, I had about 100 and pushed over the top all-in, and the guy called. Yeah I know, it looks really dumb, but it was rather obvious I was in the lead.

The flop was A-Kc-7c, one guy had K-J, the other guy had 9c-8c, the turn was a 9 and the river was a club. FUXING POKER :( :( :(

I won a sweet pot when a $15 stack pushed preflop, 2 people called, I called, one dude called after me.

I had 8d-6d, the flop was 6-6-8. I sucked in a couple bets on the turn or river or something, dnot remember.

I bought in for $40, then topped up for $10 twice, cashed out for $85. Meh, I played pretty well despite being rusty and unlucky in a couple pots. I was also mad card-dead, I didn't see any pocket pairs higher than 6-6, I got AK twice, neither time hit the flop, didn't see any AQs and didn't hit with the 3 pocket pairs and 2 other suited connectors I saw. Poker plays itself, I feel like such a robot when I play poker nowadays, even interesting plays and moves just happen, I don't really think that much.

Not sure what is in store for my poker future, I can see myself actually playing once a week or every other week, not sure if I'll ever play online again.

first game in ....
Permalink Posted 12:00 am in Categories: Poker

I played poker tonight!!! YEAHHHHHHH

If you asked me 2 months ago, I would have said "yeah I am done with online poker, but I'll still play live" - and since then I haven't played any live poker, I no longer even show up to the NL40 game that spawned me.

Tonight I played 6 handed hold'em, $10 buy-in, .25/.50 blinds. I probably played 20-25 hands in just over an hour, lost my $10 and went home.

Big news
Permalink Posted 2:36 pm in Categories: Poker

I'd been putting off doing it, but today I cashed out all of the money I had in online poker rooms, $150 from Mansion poker and about 800 from PokerStars. I honestly don't think I'll be playing any poker online for at least 3-4 months, so no point letting them scoop my interest :P

I also cashed in a couple of my FPPs to buy a black Poker Stars hoodie. I still have a couple thousand FPPs, but maybe in a couple months I'll parlay them into a fortune, or into nothingness.

Regardless, today my life took a step in the right direction :)

killing lives

So despite my lack of interest in internet poker, I am still donkeying around with live poker, stealing pots, breaking hearts, flipping coins.

Alright, so as usual, my buddies and I play .50/1 NO limit hold'em with a $40 maximum buy-in. I've been running cold the last couple of trips - so where some people would say that luck and patterns have nothing to do with poker, smart people like me would say that poker is all about luck and streaks. I'm not saying you can predict the streaks, but I do know that my mad-skillz will eventually pay off - one big win outta 5, and I"m only down 3K a month... errr or something like that.

So anyways, we played poker on monday (my first day-off since I got home from vancouver)- which was a sweet day - I completed the triathlon of non-athletics: Golf, Pool and Poker.

We golfed in a threesome and tee'd off around 2:00, we were playing skins, $5 per hole, every man for himself, ties are pushed over to the next hole. We are all fairly equally skilled golfers, so the push-rule is a huge kick in the dick sometimes... for example, I pared the first 3 holes to tie with the other dude who made 3 pars, and the third donkey went double, double, bogey. The 4th hole is a 320 yard par 4, I crushed my drive about 10 yards from the front right of the green to put myself in perfect shape. My approach went to about 15 feet, the other good guy put his approach into a bunker - so I thought I was golden for the hole - and 4 skins. And then donkey boy - missed the green with his 2nd shot - and miraculously blades his chip, hits the pin and drops it for birdie :( and I missed my putt.

The next 4 holes were tied, I made 3 pars and a triple bogey - luckily donkey-boy tied the other decent player to save me on my triple. The 9th hole was a 190 yard par 3, pin tucked beside a big pond. Donkey pulls his tee-shot into an unplayable lie, decent dude lays up his tee-shot on the green, but far from the pin. I decide to go aggressive, pull out my 6-iron and play a big draw over the water. It started perfectly, landed about 5 yards in front of the pin and rolled to about 2 feet. My birdie putt won me five skins :)

We jumped back to the 6th hole b/c a tournament was playing on every other hole. I won the 6th hole, a 140 yard downhill par-3 by making a 10 foot birdie putt. We tied the 7th, 8th and 9th holes so we hopped back to the 9th to play a tie-breaker.

Donkey puts his drive into the water and decent guy pulls his drive into some fescue. I said "fuckit" and hit my 6-iron again, I put it in almost the same spot as before and sink my birdie to destroy them both.

Final tally: me-9, donkey-4, decent-0, so I took $25 from donkey and $45 from decent dude. I think I was probably about 1 over par for the holes we played.

POOL:

I really suck at pool compared to good people, but I'm learning. I played in the weekly tournament - and I lost really quick. I suck at pool, no good stories there. This was actually the first tournament I've played in my whole life - and I learned a lot. I'm hoping to get real good at pool.

POKER:

Wow, poker is really lame, we flipped coins like crazy, took some 60/40s, won a big pot with AA>KK>77, I cashed out for $190. I was gonna poker blog... but nope.

Peace, dg

Back home

I am finally back in Ontario. I was in Vancouver for just over 2 weeks, it was an amazing trip. Vancouver is the best city I've ever been to, I'm willing to say it's the nicest city in North America.

Since getting home I've played live poker once and haven't even considered playing online. I am disgusted by poker and I don't think I'll ever "care" about poker again.
