Trip report
Permalink Posted 11:33 am in Categories: Poker

Got to town afternoon of April 30th.

$4/$8 at Bellagio from 7-9 PM. No real stories, average players, not much in the way of hands. I think I played 5 hands in two hours. +$48. Raymer and Sklansky playing in the high limit room, saw that Brandon Adams guy in the poker room. He always looks like he's surprised by everything to me.

Nice room, but drink service was very bad. Waited half-hour before someone came by; her next trip, she forgot a guy's beer. He waited ~20 minutes for her, she never did come back with it.

5/1
$2/$4 at Flamingo from 10-3 PM. Lottery poker, cards dead cold. Three times had straight/flush draws post-flop, none hit. Then got a bit frustrated and overplayed some hands, -$100.

Not so much a poker room as a poker area. A half-wall separates it from the slots and whatnot, it's near a main door, so pretty distracting. Not impressed with the dealers at all. Seemed more interested with what was on the TV than running the game, not knowing where the action was, starting to burn when not everyone had called, that sort of thing.

$3/$6 Caesar's. Better play, cold cards, didn't play what I got particularly well either. Probably 3 decent players, 3 just having fun, the rest kind of in the middle. Flopped bottom two, luckbox (he admitted it as well, just running good, a nice guy) across the table hits his second pair on the river. Last hand, 98c, turn the flush, of course a woman at the other end had Axc. -$100.

Nice room, separate from the casino, a very nice place to play.

$2/$4 Palace Station. A fun table, and it was time to drink a few. Once again, never caught, didn't play particularly well, but it was easy to stumble on upstairs after several beers.

Not a good place to play; slow drink service, dealers that are marginally intersted in the game. But they comp my room.

5/2.

Went over to Caesar's, watched a bit of the final table of the circuit main event. David Pham made a misread against the young guy with a set to get crippled and went out sixth, other than that, no notables. Joe Clark & Brett Jungblutt in the crowd.

Then off to Penn & Teller, which was a really good show. Too tired to play afterward.

So, my first losing trip to Vegas. However, I won a $5 UB tournament Friday night while in Utah (+$300), so up slightly for the trip.

Anyway, from what I've seen, Dave's right. Anybody that's been playing a while and has had success should be able to handle the $3/$6 and above, it seems like. Although this was midweek, maybe that makes a difference.
