Second Prize
Permalink Posted 9:12 am in Categories: Poker

The recurring theme of my continuing adventures in wsop double shootouts.

My 2nd attempt at the $160 qualifier never got off the ground, finished 5th at 1st table, my 3rd attempt got me 2nd at the 1st table, again it was a lengthy HU match but i came out on the wrong end of a flip in the end, tres disappointing.

In between these i was hammering away at the $16 qualfiers, after 10 of these I finished 2nd 3 times at first table and managed to win 4 times and made the cash places but never quite got another seat.

So all in all even tho i never managed to win a seat i turned that first $16 into over $400 cash. Hrmmm, maybe next time i'll just take my chances in the mtt qualifier :p

First Attempt
Permalink Posted 9:06 pm in Categories: Poker

So as I write this I'm making my first attempt at a $160 Double Shootout with the W$ I won last night. I have a few minutes because I just won the first table and am waiting for the final table to be set.

First table was wild! 4 people were gone in first 10 minutes, I doubled up with JJ v AK early on, craziness i know! I never really push with JJ early in a sng but wildness took over and it worked out ok.

I then stacked a guy when my AA held against his KK all in preflop. and then a few hands later lost about half my stack when my KK got all in preflop against QQ and AA! Obviously QQ flopped quads and that was the end of that.

We got down to 3 pretty quickly, well inside first hour anyways and it was cool, nice couple of guys and we were having a few chuckles as well as stealing the sh*t out of each others blinds.

Got heads up as an 8:5 dog and went down and down and down, he had me down to 800 chips when i managed to double up with 78, then I doubled up again with TJ and then again when my 77 held against his overs.

I took the chip lead shortly after that, i think he was a broken man at that point and i turned the screws on him. Eventually he got it all in and I called with A6 to his KT, he never improved and it was all over!

Now all that stands between me and a WSOP seat are 8 other people, all harbouring the same fantasies a I am. barring major accidents I should get my money back. 9th pays $30, 2nd - 8th pays $160 and of course, the seat for 1st!

EDIT: F*CK F*CK F*CK!

I let myself get shortstacked. had about 600 left with blinds 50/100, sb limped in and i pushed with TQ, he called with A4 and it was all over. Out in 6th :-(

Ach well, no regrets, 6th is as good as 2nd and i wasn't going to be waiting around with an M of 4.

Next time.

It's That Time of Year Again

WSOP satellites are running on Stars!

Someone once said that the key to building a bankroll is satellites, well i disagree! I hate them! I wish I had all the money back from every satellite i ever played, I'd prolly be able to buy in direct to at least one of the smaller wsop events :p

That said, I will of course be joining 1000's of others trying to win that elusive seat.

Tonight i made my first foray, a $16 double shootout with entry to the Sunday $650 sat. to the winner. If I win I plan to unregister and play 4 $150 dbl shootout sats instead. But we'll see how it goes.

So the first table starts, 8 ppl seated. I'm pretty quiet to start off with, unlike sit n go's the blinds here go up every 15 mins, so there's a lot of play to go. 2 people go out fairly quickly, I don't think I'd played a hand yet lol.

So we're 6 handed and i've made a few raises to steal blinds with any 2 paint when this hand comes up

What was he thinking?

So i sit back and wait for hands again, the odd steal here and there but i don't really move, blinds are tiny compared to my stack so I'm happy.

Just to prove AA isn't always great, this happened...

ok, so i should maybe have reraised him, but come onnnnnn!

ugh I just realised there's something up with pokerhand so the flop turn river aren't showing blahhhh! Basically, he flopped a straight flush and i didn't bet until i rivered a boat!

So I got very active, stealing blinds now 75/150 left and right, i built my way back up. There was one more key hand where i flopped the flush draw, and bet out, he raised and I moved all in, he shows JJ for top pair and i had to go runner runner to catch my straight :-D

Anyways we got to heads up. I managed to build my 60/40 lead up to 75/25 just through sheer aggressive button plays when i pulled 66 in the hole, i limped in and he raised, I thought for a bit and figured he would call if i pushed, so i did and he did :p and showed A7 off

A 6 on the door gave me an easy ride and he didn't improve so a fairly easy win for me.

So I'm through to the final table of 10, looking at $61 for 9th, $72 for 2nd to 8th and the $65 seat for teh win. If i take it down you'll hear about it, if i don't i'll probably not mention it, if i go out 10th i'll quit poker :p

EDIT: Just finished a MARATHON heads up at the final table, heads up alone lasted for about 45 minutes, I started 11500 to 3500 down chip lead changed several times and at one point I had him 12500 to 2500 down before he came back level again.

It all came down to one crucial hand which we both played terribly, fortunately i was luckier of the 2 and won it, crippling him and taking it the next hand :-D Taking the seat into the $650 on Sunday :-D :-D :-D

As I said before I think i'll unregister and play the $150 double shootout sats instead.

Busto On The Bonus Whoring
Permalink Posted 8:51 am in Categories: Poker

Yes well... I did mention that it would be a possibility due to the limited bankroll to start off with.

I took the $50 to sunpoker and played $1/$2 Stud as planned, everything was going well and i had rolled that $50 up to just over $100 after a few hours. Bounced up and down between those 2 marks for a while and even opened 2 tables to try and bring the raked hand count along.

2 tabling stud is NOT easy!

So well, variance took it's toll, or i got too cocky or something, I think i actually started chasing some draws when i knew i was behind and basically donked my way down to about $25.

I didn't fancy trying to compete at $1/$2 from there, It would have been possible but i decided to try and get a little boost from NLHE first.

About 3 hands into the NLHE i went broke after hitting the 2nd best straight on the turn :sigh:

It was a good plan!

Just didn't work out. I will prolly go back to it at some point, I am more than 50% towards the bonus and like i said, It's a good plan! After the first few sites bankroll shouldn't be a problem.

From $0 To $1000's (Bonus Whoring)
Permalink Posted 10:41 pm in Categories: Poker

I've never really gone bonus whoring before, sure I've cleared bonuses (bonii?) of on various sites, but never with the intention of using that money to move to another site and clear more bonus.

So a comment from mindgame got me thinking, How easy would it be to trawl through various sites, collecting the max bonus from each and then moving onto the next.

Most of us read the thread which outlined how this could be done, but it's an old thread and with the plethora of new sites and new bonuses out there it's time for an update.

The $0 in question isn't actually $0 but rather $20 which Absolute Poker gave me for free to try and entice me back to their site. Thanks AP ;o)

I took that $20 to a 6 handed .25/.50 NLHE game and ran it up to $53.25. My reason for the NLHE was that i had to turn over 75 raked hands in order to withdraw the money, BUT, minimum withdrawal from AP is $50.

That $53.25 is hopefully now winging it's way to my NETeller account and my next port of call will be SunPoker.

My reason for choosing Sunpoker is that they are offering not only a 100% up to $50 first time deposit bonus, but also a 100% up to $100 reload bonus. So my plan is to turn around the 250 raked hands for the $50, withdraw the money back to NETeller and then reload it, hopefully for the full $100.

Presuming I break even on Sun, I wil have $200 to take to the next place... That's the plan anyway.

Of course the flaw in this plan is that I'm starting with only $50, If variance takes a hand early on I could be just another kid with a dream (thanks norm) ;o)

We'll see.
