$10 MTT - on FT Bubble

Postby LeeG » Mon Nov 12, 2007 10:43 pm GMT

Villain has been caught several times making CB's when he whiffs flop. 10 players left out of 640ish. Hero is 6th in chips, villain is 8th. Chip leader has 200K. We are currently 5 handed and villain often makes this move in an unopened pot.

I am in BB with 91K
Villain is Button with 65K
Blinds are 1500/3000 ante 300

Action folds around to villain who bets 9K, SB folds and I look down at QT offsuit and call.

Flop is 7 K 9 rainbow. Villain bets 6K
Hero: ?

Why not re-steal preflop instead of flopping nothing and trying a c/r when villain has already put 25% of their stack in and will have a hard time folding now?

I'm folding here, I've have considered 3 betting preflop or leading out on this flop to negate his position. I don't see how knowing he C-bets helps us when we whiff and check.

If I was hell bent on C/R I'd go 15K and give up if called.

When he was caught cbetting, were they normal sized cbets, or were they horribly weak/pathetic cbet like he did just here?

If they were weak like this one is, i'd consider c/r him. If they were normal sized before, I probably fold cause it looks like he wants you to think hes weak.

What I'd usually do in this situation is float. If I whiff the turn I bet out, if I hit a 10 or Queen I probably check/call. And if the jack comes, then go for a check/raise.

Floating OOP with villain invested pretty heavily is suspect IMO.

I would agree with this statement. What were his bets before. depending on how hard he whiffed a check raise all in could make him lay it down. Check calling here almost isnt a option. IMO

2-3 BB was a typical cbet. I had seen nim showdown weak aces several times when he was in late position. I just called planning to make a big bet on the turn if an ace didn't come. Turn was a J giving me a straight, so I slow played it. We ended up getting it all in on river and he flopped over 77 for a flopped set.

This is the stage of a tourney that I have the most problems with. You can't just wait around for a premium hand, and 'by the book' attacks by mid stacks against other mid stacks with ATC are common. Although I am happy with the result (I hit a 4 outer), I don't like my play here at all. I think either a raise AI preflop or a CRAI on flop would have been better.

Eh, I don't like folding to a guy who bets less than his orginal preflop raise. Also hes pretty much at the point where if he bets again hes commited to the hand, so if we check again on the turn and he checks behind we know the hand is ours.

Plus we have maybe 10 outs on the turn.
