1st live mtt in 5 weeks.and Devilfish is in the house.almost
So I haven't been playing much live lately, playing live is a luxury for me, I like playing it, and DTD is amazing and really cool being just a taxi ride away but I don't have the money at the moment for these "luxuries".But tonight my friend and dealer there said he'd stake me into the £100 f/o, relatively small field, sound structure and 40% I take of the winnings or 50/50 if i win. So how can i refuse?
I go down there just happy to be playing and ready to play good. I draw a table of about 4 wizards and 2/3 people Ive never played with , 1 of whom I label a rock and the other a typically Tight Aggresive amateur who bets way too much pre flop and no concept of pot control.
I dont feel rusty at all though and dont lose a chip in the following situation, 4 limpers, I have 2-5 off suit in sb and complete, flop comes Q 2 7, we check round. Turn is a 2, I decide to check again since theres no flush or striaght draws on and noyone probably has a peice of the flop, utg tight player bets out 200, theres a call and a re raise to 500, I know the first bet is pocket 4s or something, the caller though might have A2 and the raiser im unsure of since I never played with him, expect he owns the lapdance club nextdoor, nonetheless I lay it down, fold and a re raise of 1k, a call, river K, a bet and shove, they show K-2 suited and the guy shoving K 7....nice turn call Sir!
Then we wait while they have trouble with putting up alternates, and setting up a new table, when 2 of the DTD sponsored pro's join the table in Simon Nowab and Paul Jackson, theres banter going on between them and another DTD loyal fan, and I realise this is a tough table, im not in awe though and quickly reaslise Nowab is playing everypot.
He limps, as does Jackson, I look down at 4
5
in the CO and with 7,000 chips and bb only 150 I flat call.We take the flop A
, 5
, 5
, Nowab bets 200, Jackson folds, I decide to re raise it a bit and make it 600, he flat calls quickly. I put him on Ax or a flush draw here. Turn comes 6
, he checks and I quickly check looking dismayed i got called on flop. River comes 6
, now he leads out for 1,500, I ponder re raising then back out when I think theres the remote chance he stuck around and got lucky A 6, so I flat call, he turns up A -5, NH! I think I played the hand well though, many people go broke on either of my hands here.
Next hand, I have like 4,750, Jackson limps and I find A Q , I dont have any small chips though and trickily flat call, Nowab shoves from the bb, now i know he has like 8000 and blinds are only 150, jackson passes, and I think for a bit, theres no way he does that move with AA,KK,QQ. I consider he might just turn up a bluff but think he probably has some sort of hand, I dwell for a bit before deciding Im going to call, he turns up 9 9, and I whiff. I rap the table and wish them good luck and for once not annoyed in the slightest.
I played very well I felt, got away from tough situations and played good poker. The funny thing is though I go to the bar order a Red Bull and order a taxi, as I am on my way out I notice 4 prett girls and a man with them but didnt pay attention, I get in the cab and the taxi driver says "Theres that c*nt"...I retort " who?"....."that Devilfish c*nt off tv"...I laugh a bit and Devilfish enters the tournament fashionably late, 1hour half late, just as I am walking out the door.
Would have been cool to be on his table, but eh, my time will come.
