Dutch Boyd is 6/25 in the latest $1,500 event
His name is Russ. I refuse to call him by his gay moniker.

Re: 2010 WSOP thread
You know, this entire WSOP I didn't see a single update on Gus Hansen or Patrik Antonius. I think Antonius is in the ME but Gus is definitely not playing this year per the latest PokerNews update.
I'm trying to think of other notable absentees but none really spring to mind other than the ones above. Bit weird? I can believe Patrik was tearing up cash games instead or maybe just bricked a few tourneys and didn't ever make the money but I don't know.

Re: 2010 WSOP thread
So far this year's TV coverage has been painful and I'm losing faith. They've decided to try and be smart and name the seats things like 'UTG' and 'CO' but they have a seat called 'UTG+4' rather than defining any sort of middle position seats. Granted they've only televised FTs so far so naturally it's not always a full table but it's still weird and I don't think it is teaching anyone anything.
Also, as has been said before I'm sure, it is infuriating that they purely chase ratings and televise the Tournament of Champions each year rather than something worth watching. Obviously TV execs know that this will attract people because they voted half the champions in to the game but it was not a stacked field in terms of talent, it was a who's who of out of date poker players in the main. I mean who really wants to see TJ Cloutier play poker these days? Honestly. When I saw the FT line up I prayed Huck Seed would win not some super donk like Annie Duke. "She won it in 2004!" Norman Chad proclaims - yes Norm but she's done nothing since and does not deserve to be proclaimed as a current great of the game.
Maybe the ME coverage will be OK but I guess it will follow Johnny Chan for ages and then show the suckout hands played by some of the world's best young players to make them all look like luckboxes and then it will be the Michael Mizrachi hour. Good times

Re: 2010 WSOP thread
I've never been able to watch poker on TV. I get so pissed off with the highlights where we only see the key hands and nothing more.
When i watch cricket on TV in this country I sometimes watch for 20 minutes without a single run being scored. When i'm in the states and watch a televised baseball game sometimes it takes the batsman 5 minutes to miss the ball a few times before he walks off having done diddley-squat.
IMO this is part of the game and coverage. If i want to see the highlights I'll turn on the TV at 11pm at night and watch 20 minutes of high impact and action.
If poker is to appeal to the masses it's gotta start promoting a lifestyle choice where commentators and/or experts get time to debate and argue certain styles, moves and plays and then (more importantly) the viewer can spend the next few hours looking out for these pointers - which in turn helps them develop their game accordingly.
At the moment its sport where every 5 minutes someone goes all in and loses, but still walks away 'in the money'. No history of how they got into the money in the first place - which means no passion or ownership for the viewer.
Very poor.

Re: 2010 WSOP thread
To ESPN's credit, their ME coverage has been quite good. Granted there was precious little coverage or conversation about Scott Clements who finished 18th and is one of the best poker players in the world. Similarly, Adam Levy got next to no coverage despite finishing 12th. Does he say f*ck every other word or something, or has he upset ESPN in some way? I just don't get it.
Anyway, the FT is stacked and they've given good coverage to some less than TV friendly characters like Joseph Cheong for once. My money is on John Racener to win it.

Re: 2010 WSOP thread
It starts at 8pm UK time today (Saturday 6th Nov). It is not on UK TV at all but is on ESPN3.com if you pay.
I'm going to attempt to avoid the result of the FT and watch it when it's been edited for ESPN (aired Tuesday 9th in the US).

Oh, I guess I should book my plane ticket then. They won't start without me, will they?

Re: 2010 WSOP thread
Does anyone know how long the final table took to play out and/or any other stats on how long different players lasted? E.g., how long from heads up to the win?
Did anyone on the forum play in any of the events?
