5,000 posts

Postby HalfSugar » Mon Apr 07, 2008 4:49 pm GMT

Who'd have thought it? It's taken over 5 years but that is more of a good thing than a bad thing if you ask me.

Taking a quick glance at the total posts list, it is a sad thing to see that most of the top 50 registered in 2003-2005 and many are no longer very active. That definitely reflects how much this place has cooled off over the years due to one reason or other. Having a smaller community does have its upsides but there is something about having a ridiculously popular forum going that is always good.

Back when I started in 2003/04, when I felt like a knew a bit about poker, I was comfortable posting advice to people. Nowadays, I realise just how little I know and I generally keep my trap shut! As Supa pointed out his recent controversial post, I am a nit and my poker skills do not extend beyond very textbook novice thinking. That is fine, and I accept that, because I do not have the time or the right mindset to become immersed further into poker and become a proper student of the game. To those of you that do, I salute you and I have the utmost respect.

Whether the forum will remain active enough to see another 5,000 posts from me remains to be seen but I hope so. I pretty much never go a day without reading it and whereas I once had to moderate 10+ posts a day (out of 100+ that were posted), I rarely have to deal with much. However, I learn more these days by reading a smaller number of useful posts from proper poker players than I did back when every punk going was posting something that was mostly fairly useless.

Maybe having a small community is not so bad, even it is looked after by a guy who's avatar looks like that

PS. It's not me!!

Know what is really sad? I have probably read about 4,000 of them. Alas, I will never get that time back.

Pretty sick.
I'm on here just shy of two years and already soon to reach the 4k posts mark.

Just shows how much I have going on in my life!

You know Geno, on other sites when a poster reach some kind of a land mark post (ie 1k, 2k etc) he posts a meaningful post.

I guess in your case it will be kind of hard but maybe you can copy someones else's post and pretend its yours?
