5star's Dice Faux Clay Poker Chips

Postby rich8 » Fri Jun 04, 2004 2:02 pm GMT

After reading almost every post, I am more confused now. I was set on getting the 11.5 gram striped dice chips, but they might not be what I want now, especially if they feel like plastic. Now what caught my eye are the 10 gram dice faux clay poker chips from 5 star. According to the website they sound and feel like a real clay chip, which is probably what I want. Plus they are actually cheaper than the 11.5 ones.

My question is has anyone bought these?
Are they as advertised?
Does 5star sell them exclusively?
Are they cheaper anywhere else?
Do they feel like casino chips?
Do they have a metal insert like the 11.5 grams?
Why do they cost less?

By the way I will be using these for a monthly poker game. Also I'm going to hotstamp them with my initials. Has anyone bought them hotstamped? How does it look? I know this is a lot of questions. But I just dont want to get ripped off. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

10 gram = sucky.
Sorry man, but they maek the same claim of feeling on the 11.5 gram. Don't expect more from less- the price represents quality on 5star.

I did some more research on the 5star website. They are comparing them to Paulson chips. Is this possible? Mindgame, you are the resident expert. What do you think? You mentioned that you like the Paulson chips. I value your opinion. Keep in mind that I'm not a collector like you. I'm just going to use them for my poker games. I'm getting the itch here and want to buy soon. Thanks.

Most casino chips are 10g, I have no idea how the standard became 11.5g. It is a matter of personal preference but if you have ever handled real casino chips, the 11.5g chips are not even comparable... NEITHER will be close to Paulson chips...

Yeh I don't know about those chips. They say" Like A Real Clay Chip ".

you should email 5star or just buy one

If chris rock can buy just one rib, you can buy just one chip :)

Is money an issue? how much do you plan on spending?

Teekan,

Yea money is an issue. I want to be around $200. But I just want a "nice" set that more resembles/kind of feels like a real casino chip. I'm just using the chips for poker nights at home. I want 650 chips plus a case. And that is where I will be if buy these ones. It sounds like a lot of people are happy with those diamond chips from 5star, so I just wanted some opinion on these faux clay ones. They are 1g heavier than the 9g diamonds and in my opinion have a nicer design. Plus I can hotstamp my initials on them and stay within budget. In addition they are being advertising as comparable to Paulson chips. But it sounds too good to be true. They are only $.14/each while the Paulson ones are at least triple that from what I've read on this forum. Maybe I should be comparing them to the diamond chips instead of comparing them to Paulsons. If I do that maybe it will justify a purchase. I don't know. Anyway here is the website if anyone else wants to see them and make a comment. I'm not sure if I did it right but I just cut and pasted it from my browser.

Thanks in advance.

I did some more research. It was the only post on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... eName=WD1V

These chips are exactly the ones that I want to buy from 5star. So these faux clay chips must be pretty new. Also on bottom of the 5star site they said that these chips are copyright protected and registered as property of 5star. I'm not a lawyer but I'm guessing that they have the exclusive on this chips. I guess I wont be able to compare prices to make sure I dont get ripped off. Oh well.

Anybody ever hear about this Kev-Lau Enterprises? Is he affiliated with 5star in some way? Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

I would get a sample of 20 each of the faux and diamond ones and compare them. try out some poker chip tricks, see how they feel and then make your decision

Never heard of that Kev-Lau Enterprises sorry

I have 500 dice striped chips from 5stardeal, they seem very nice to me. Good weight, can't tell there's a metal slug in them (although I know there are). The sets are quite cheap now, I would recommend them.
