9 Gram "Las Vegas" Clay Chips from www.pokerchipma
Has anyone tried these chips? The look nice and are quite inexpensive... just wondering how they stack up when compared to the usual 11.5 gm dice/suited/diamond chips.
thanks

"Las Vegas" Clay Chips from www.pokerchipmart.com
Matt:
I'm in the process of deciding on a chip set, and have collected samples that cover all ends of the spectrum, including the chips you are referring to. (By the way, this forum is an awesome source of info!) These chips are clearly plastic or resin-composite chips and not clay, but on the plus side, they don't have a metal slug inside (won't stick to magnet) and don't "clink" when dropped onto a hard surface. On the negative side, the "Vegas" designs are just glossy stickers, which peel off without much trouble. I would ask for samples of these chips, and decide for yourself. The blank versions of these chips would not be a bad choice for someone looking to buy chip labels, since they have a recessed area - for holding the "Dog", "Car", or "Vegas" stickers.
Hope this helps -

could you tell us what chips you got samples of and what impressions you had of each? I was going to just order chips online, until I went to Brookstone and felt some royal suited chips - I was not impressed. Which chips have felt the best? the worst? in the middle? They need to set up a page where people can list all the chips they come out with and how they feel, since apparently truth in advertizing is not such a common thing with poker chip sellers.

Chip Quality ( re: Las Vegas Clay Chips from Pokermart)
There is truth in advertising. You just have to find the right store. Many online and offline "brick & mortar" stores will advertise anything as clay, when in reality, there are very, very few "clay" chips.
I just came back from Las Vegas and I went to over a dozen of the large strip casinos and could find only about half that still use Paulson chips. The others were using really nice composite chips. They had that "thud" sound but were not clay.
Here is a link that spells out the different quality of poker chips. I have the new 13g "clay" chips, and they will scratch so easily, just like this story says. I was very dissapointed with the quality. Hope this helps:

1. Read all the threads in this forum. There are also a couple of informative posts on Two Plus Two under the Home Poker forum.
2. Go to Drew's Chip Guide, and Home Poker Tourney.
3. Take your time, get samples. Sometimes they'll be free, most times not - I paid between $4 and $15 to various vendors. One (fortunately free) sample of the 'Tri-color' style plastic chip was enough to tell me that it was not what I wanted. The sample set from Dice 702 will give you a feel of a fair range of chips - Blue Chip, TR King, metal inserts, Chipco. I can PM you my opinions on the ones that I sampled (above list, plus homepokerchips.com, buypokerchips.com, pokerchips.com, Nevada Jacks), but I think chip selection is pretty subjective.
4. Read all the threads in this forum (did I say that already?). Look especially for posts by mindgame, MSPatton, The_Manimal, and the aforementioned Drew.

Chip review Part One
Here is a list of the chips I’ve sampled. I’ll break this into two separate posts, with the first covering the cheaper chips, and the second covering what are best described as “premiumâ€Â

I bought the vegas chips and are completly happy with them. It is a choice thay are the best chips i could find for that price. They feel good sound good stack well. I got the 9 gram premium vegas chips. The only downfall i had is that they have denominations on them. But i figure that if people cant figure out the values oh well, there stupid and dont want them at my game.
