a business idea that i took a lot of flack for
ok... I have this idea to start a small business that a bunch of people on IRC just outright called me an idiot for thinking...
it would be a grocery delivery company..
there are no other services of this kind in my city...
i live in northern ontario in a city of about 135k people...
it wouldn't be a large operation and would work out of 1 local grocery store..
it would be a weekly delivery which costs about 20$ or 10% of order on orders over a certain amount..
wouldn't be for spontanious orders (orders would be placed at least a day or 2 in advance)...
because of the higher charge customers would tend to place bigger orders to make it worth their while...
at least at first there wouldn't be a website (the cost of having someone design and build a fully functioning e-commerce website would be 3-5k)...
for newer customers a deposit would be required to help ensure customers are around for delivery...
deliveries would be done all in one day (sat or sun)... and be send out 2 at a time while the next 2 are being packed (this is to ensure orders don't sit in boxes all day)... also items that require it will be packed in coolers...
the city takes maybe 15-20 min to drive completely across so deliveries would be scheduled in 30 min blocks...
from the 20$ fee the costs are 7$ per delivery for the driver (driver will be subcontracting and responcible for their own gax/insurance/repairs/taxes) and 5-6$ for the sorter (me.. again also subcontracting if possible).. 7$ will be left over for fixed expenses...
thoughts... suggestions... potential problems are are welcomed...
if you're just going post 2 word insults without exlaining yourself or coming up with unrealistic situations for problems like catholics having a problem with it cause it'll interfere with church then keep them to yourself cause i'd rather you just sit around in your parents' basement smoking pot than hear pointless negativity...

this convo lead to the post....
[16:42] <Ensano> do you have grocery deliver services in your area?
[16:46] <Ensano> http://interested-participant.blogspot. ... ghter.html
[16:48] <@pavhome> we had that green company for a few years
[16:48] <@pavhome> i forget what its' called
[16:48] <@pavhome> but they were too expensive and they failed
[16:48] <Ensano> cause me and my g/f are looking into starting one up here
[16:49] <Ensano> trying to get an idea of a price-point for the service
[16:49] <Ensano> we've already lined up a driver that will do it for 6-6.50 per delivery if we can give 2 del an hr
[16:49] <@pavhome> what was the big gompany called...
[16:49] <@pavhome> gateway?
[16:49] <Ensano> yeah i know the company you're talking about
[16:50] <@pavhome> http://www.grocerygateway.com/
[16:50] <Ensano> they had their own fleet of trucks and all odering was onnline and they had their own warehouse
[16:50] <@pavhome> it still exists
[16:50] <@pavhome> just not as publicized
[16:50] <@pavhome> but you'd haveta be somewhat comparable
[16:50] <Ensano> we're not thinking big like that
[16:50] <Ensano> we looking more personalized...
[16:50] <@pavhome> yeah but are you going to hookup with a discount grocer or are you just running a courier service
[16:51] <Ensano> no comp service
[16:51] <Ensano> would basically be right out of a local grocery store
[16:51] <@pavhome> yeah so a courier service
[16:51] <@pavhome> it'll fail
[16:51] <@pavhome> gas is too expensive
[16:51] <Ensano> kinda like the kid on the bike who delivers to the old lady
[16:51] <@pavhome> and there's a thousand delivery services in every town
[16:51] <Ensano> but a bit bigger
[16:51] <Ensano> only delivery services around here are for a few items
[16:52] <Ensano> like you need smokes or booze...
[16:52] <Ensano> maybe a jar of peanut butter...
[16:52] <Ensano> they charge 8$ +tax
[16:52] <Ensano> we're looking to be a large order deliverer
[16:53] <@pavhome> in what way are you better than grocerygateway?
[16:53] <Ensano> well for one we'll be the only one like it in 200 km
[16:54] <Ensano> i did some research and farthest north you can get a service like them is barrie
[16:54] <Ensano> granted they do have some niche carriers that work with the elderly
[16:55] <@pavhome> grocery gateway charges 10 bucks on any order and will deliver within a half hour window
[16:55] <@pavhome> with the entire selection of longo's shit at face value
[16:55] <@pavhome> seems like a tough competitor when gas is this expensive
[16:56] <Ensano> and one thing i was thinking to differentiate would be since we won't have an online ordering we set up our paper like kinda a meal planner
[16:56] <Ensano> yeah it does at 10$
[16:56] <Ensano> i was thinking of charging 20-25$ per deliver
[16:56] <Ensano> or 10% on any order over 300$
[16:57] <Ensano> out of that 6$ would go to the person packing up the order
[16:57] <Ensano> 6-7 would go to the driver
[16:58] <Ensano> would leave a net profit of 7$ per delivery (granted fixed expenses would come out of that)
[16:58] <Ensano> 7$/del... in an 8 hr day @ 2 del an hr would be ... $112 a day
[16:58] <Ensano> just for 1 driver and 1 sorter
[16:59] <Ensano> potential profits would be 2400$+ a month for a 5 day week
[17:00] <@pavhome> those numbers are completely wrong
[17:00] <Ensano> how so?
[17:00] <@pavhome> if you think someone is going to pay 20 bucks for 100 in groceries you're insane
[17:00] <Ensano> 8 hrs means 16 deliveries
[17:00] <Ensano> 7$/ del means 112 a day
[17:00] <Ensano> 5 working days a week
[17:01] <Ensano> means 560 a week
[17:01] <@pavhome> you've officially fallen in to the starlight coast world of mathematical predictions
[17:01] <Ensano> 52 weeks a year means 29120 a year
[17:01] <@pavhome> err you're ignoring the fundamental flaw?
[17:01] <Ensano> 12 months a year means 2400
[17:01] <@pavhome> 0 customers would pay 25 bucks?
[17:01] <Ensano> i know sustainable traffic
[17:01] <@pavhome> sustainable?
[17:01] <@pavhome> you're going to get 0
[17:02] <@pavhome> literally 0
[17:02] <Ensano> how so?
[17:02] <@boomking> 0 is easily sustainable imo
[17:02] <@pavhome> <@pavhome> if you think someone is going to pay 20 bucks for 100 in groceries you're insane
[17:02] <Ensano> i did a test before i got hurt
[17:02] <@pavhome> grocery gateway dropped a lot of value because people stopped paying 10 bucks because it was too much. and that's with tiny tiny tiny profit margins when you include gas + car maintenance
[17:02] <Ensano> i sent out flyers 1 day (about 50) and got 3-4 calls the next morning
[17:03] <Ensano> i wouldn't be using my own vehicle
[17:03] <Ensano> contract that out at 7$/del\
[17:03] <@pavhome> yeah how would those customers feel when every single one of them wants a delivery at exactly 5:30-6:30 after work before dinner and you have 1 car?
[17:03] <Ensano> they use own vehicle and pay own gas
[17:03] <Ensano> little thing calls scheduling
[17:03] <@pavhome> yeah sure
[17:03] <@pavhome> "give me 25 bucks and ill tell you when i will deliver it"
[17:04] <Ensano> the own idea is to have a regular clientelle
[17:04] <@pavhome> are you listening to yourself?
[17:04] <Ensano> yeah i am
[17:04] <@pavhome> grocery gateway has online scheduling down to the half hour
[17:04] <@pavhome> for 10 bucks
[17:04] <Ensano> yeah that's what we would do also
[17:04] <@pavhome> with a money back guarantee
[17:04] <Ensano> but there's also competition in the GTA market
[17:04] <Ensano> there isn't here
[17:04] <Ensano> and this is a much smaller city than TO
[17:04] <@pavhome> what happens when someone is unhappy with a bruised apple?
[17:05] <@pavhome> are you going to let them return it and refund?
[17:05] <@pavhome> because gateway does
[17:05] <Ensano> if there's a problem.. than it isn't a problem we'll take it back

[17:05] <@pavhome> and do what with it?
[17:05] <@pavhome> lose the 5-40 bucks the item was worth?
[17:05] <Ensano> because we'll be operating out of a local store we can return it
[17:06] <@pavhome> you think local stores let you return bruised fruit?
[17:06] <Ensano> ?
[17:06] <@RobotNixon> hiiii
[17:06] <Ensano> yeah
[17:06] <Ensano> i've done it
[17:06] <@pavhome> yes but not 100 times for nitpicky customers
[17:06] <@pavhome> i dunno
[17:06] <Ensano> i went with a receip that had milk on it twice...
[17:06] <Ensano> receipt was for a week ago
[17:06] <@pavhome> if you want to do this, you better talk to a discount grocer in your area
[17:06] <Ensano> told them i only bought 1 and they refunded me
[17:06] <@pavhome> and negotiate some major deals
[17:07] <@pavhome> in return for continuous stream of customers
[17:07] <@pavhome> and i still think this is gonna fail horribly
[17:07] <Ensano> that's the plan
[17:07] <Ensano> but that's the thing... we don't have to be bug
[17:07] <Ensano> big*
[17:07] <@RobotNixon> I wish I had been here for the beginning of this convo
[17:07] <@pavhome> because you have absolutely no idea what the economy and gas prices are doing to food + delivert
[17:07] <Ensano> we're looking to start small
[17:07] <Ensano> 1 day...
[17:07] <@pavhome> you literally have no idea
[17:08] <Ensano> we're going to get 4-6 clients and just do that
[17:08] <@pavhome> lol okay ensano
[17:08] <Ensano> what
[17:08] <@pavhome> do whatever you want
[17:08] <@RobotNixon> ensano wants to start a food delivery business?
[17:08] <@pavhome> yes
[17:08] <Ensano> yeah
[17:08] <@pavhome> aaron
[17:08] <@RobotNixon> terrible idea
[17:08] <Ensano> why?
[17:08] <@RobotNixon> as pav mentioned, gas and food prices keep rising
[17:08] * @pavhome (supafrey@bas1-toronto61-1279436392.dsl.bell.ca) Quit (Excess Flood)
[17:08] <Ensano> yes... i don't buy in advance

[17:09] <@pavhome> wtf even pasting 30 lines in pm = flood?
[17:09] <@pavhome> gay
[17:09] <@x0jan1q> ummm, dont grocery stores already offer it
[17:09] <Ensano> i go to store and pay for it
[17:09] <@pavhome> i tried to update zinno on the story =(
[17:09] <@x0jan1q> theres no way they will pay your hourly + gas
[17:09] <@RobotNixon> grocery stores can offset the losses
[17:09] <Ensano> i don't deliver personally
[17:09] <@RobotNixon> a small operation is doomed to flop
[17:09] <@x0jan1q> then who does?
[17:09] <@x0jan1q> you are going to pay someone ?
[17:10] <Ensano> i've already locked down a driver that will do it for 7$ a delivery
[17:10] <@x0jan1q> you cant even make money if u do it yourself
[17:10] <@RobotNixon> have you looked into insurance ensano?
[17:10] <@pavhome> i'm pretty sure i've pointed out like 3-4 major flaws in your reasoning ensano
[17:10] <Ensano> insurance for what?
[17:10] <@x0jan1q> you have to advertise
[17:10] <@pavhome> lol he forgets that businesses pay insurance
[17:10] <@pavhome> worker's comp?
[17:10] <@x0jan1q> if you are paying for him, you are paying for any accident he gets into
[17:10] <Ensano> for who?
[17:10] <@pavhome> unless you're running this whole thing illegally?
[17:10] <@pavhome> your drivers?
[17:10] <Ensano> drivers are subcontractors
[17:11] <@RobotNixon> doesn't matter
[17:11] <@RobotNixon> the business must have insurance
[17:11] <Ensano> subcontractors are responcible for all their own insurances and comps
[17:11] <@x0jan1q> you arent subcontracting imo
[17:11] <@RobotNixon> you are paying him per delivery
[17:11] <@pavhome> pizza delivery services get away with it because it's illegal
[17:11] <@RobotNixon> he is an employee, regardless of how you word it
[17:11] <@pavhome> but you're a business devoted specifically to drivers
[17:11] <@pavhome> you have to get them insurance
[17:11] <@pavhome> and prolly pensions
[17:11] <@pavhome> CPP ?
[17:11] <@pavhome> ever hear of that?
[17:11] <Ensano> contractors
[17:12] <Ensano> they have to pay their own taxes
[17:12] <@pavhome> every time my dad pays 10 bucks for a stock boy he ends up paying another 5-6 dollars for their plans
[17:12] <Ensano> if they don't claim and don't pay...
[17:12] <@pavhome> are you just pulling this entirely out of your ass joe
[17:12] <@pavhome> ?
[17:12] <@RobotNixon> and what happens if he crashes and maims someone during the course of one of your deliveries?
[17:12] <Ensano> woah settle down there...
[17:12] <@pavhome> unless they're driving unmarked cars?
[17:12] <Ensano> listen... i've worked as a subcontractor and as a contractor
[17:13] <@pavhome> congratulations
[17:13] <@pavhome> i promise you grocerygateway can't call their drives subcontractors
[17:13] <@pavhome> lol
[17:13] <@x0jan1q> ok, but even if you can do this how you want
[17:13] <@x0jan1q> you still arent making money, rofl
[17:13] <Ensano> if you're fixing your house and hire someone to do it you aren't responcible for them
[17:13] <Ensano> yeah... delivery charge is 20$
[17:13] <@x0jan1q> best case scenario: you dont make money, worst case scenario: prison/sued
[17:13] <Ensano> 7$ goes to driver
[17:13] <Ensano> 6$ goes to sorter
[17:14] <Ensano> 7$ left over for fixed expenses
[17:14] <@pavhome> like i said
[17:14] <@RobotNixon> will they be driving a vehicle you own?
[17:14] <Ensano> no
[17:14] <@pavhome> the starlight coast school of mathematical predictions
[17:14] <@x0jan1q> so ur buddy, is gonna sit at home waiting for an order?
[17:14] <@x0jan1q> all day every day
[17:14] <Ensano> no
[17:14] <@x0jan1q> ?
[17:15] <Ensano> basically someone calls me and wants to get their groceries delivered regularly...
[17:15] <@pavhome> what if they don't want it regularly
[17:15] <@RobotNixon> wha happens when the subcontractor realizes he can cut you out of the equation and make a lot more money?
[17:15] <@x0jan1q> $7 to driver, 6$ sorter, $3 gas... leaves you with nothing for advertising and insurance
[17:15] <Ensano> i tell them it's a 20$ charge and that deliveries are done on sundays
[17:15] <@pavhome> LOL
[17:15] <@pavhome> "deliveries are done on sundays"
[17:15] <@pavhome> LOLOLOLOLOLOL
[17:15] <@x0jan1q> dude, theres already companies that do it for less
[17:15] <Ensano> no.. i don't opay gas
[17:15] <@x0jan1q> and can get it delivered any time
[17:15] <@x0jan1q> why the f*ck would they pay u
[17:15] <@pavhome> DELIVERIES ARE DONE ON SUNDAYS? LOL!
[17:15] <Ensano> where do you live?
[17:15] <@pavhome> LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
[17:16] <@RobotNixon> please don't invest a lot of money in this venture...please
[17:16] <Ensano> seriously... where do you live?
[17:16] <@RobotNixon> who
[17:16] <@pavhome> i couldn't imagine what i would say if a company told me they could only deliver my weeks groceries one day a week...
[17:16] <Ensano> i live in northern ontario and there's no service that does this within 200 km
[17:16] <@pavhome> it's not like i want.. lettuce
[17:16] <@pavhome> or any other producre
[17:16] <@pavhome> that only lasts like 3 days
[17:17] <@x0jan1q> what happens when ur buddy wants to go out and party
[17:17] <Ensano> uhh.. pav... hate to break it to you buddy but lots of people only do groceries once a week
[17:17] <Ensano> it's called finding responcible people to work for you
[17:17] <@x0jan1q> for $7?
[17:17] <@x0jan1q> lol
[17:17] <@pavhome> [17:18] <Ensano> uhh.. pav... hate to break it to you buddy but lots of people only do groceries once a week
[17:17] <@pavhome> do they pay for it?
[17:17] <Ensano> 7$ but 2 deliveries an hr
[17:17] <@pavhome> no
[17:17] <@pavhome> idiot
[17:17] <@x0jan1q> who the fk is going to sit at home all day hoping to make $7
[17:17] <@RobotNixon> but they only have to work one day a week
[17:17] <@RobotNixon> ONE DAY!
[17:17] <@x0jan1q> HES NOT GOING TO BE DELIVERING 2/HR
[17:17] <Ensano> ? what sitting around...
[17:18] <@x0jan1q> u think ur business is just going to explode from the get go?
[17:18] <Ensano> i live in a small city that you can drive ACROSS in 15 min
[17:18] <Ensano> no
[17:18] <@x0jan1q> small city = not a lot of ppl paying for ur service
[17:18] <Ensano> i dont' think it'll explode
[17:18] <Ensano> 135k
[17:18] <@pavhome> what about the first few months where you're making a guy spend an entire day at home to maybe get 2 deliveries total?
[17:18] <@pavhome> for free?
[17:18] <Ensano> enough people so have 10 willing to pay
[17:19] <@x0jan1q> ?!!?!?
[17:19] <@x0jan1q> 10 willing to pay?
[17:19] <@pavhome> you should make a thread about this so that we can mock you publically
[17:19] <@RobotNixon> if you have a customer base of 10 starting out, you are only going to bring in ~$200 per week, assuming every custoemr uses you every week
[17:19] <Ensano> no... because all deliveries will be booked prior... they'd know how many del they're going to get well before
[17:19] <@x0jan1q> lol
[17:19] <Ensano> yeah... why not nixon?
[17:20] <@x0jan1q> no one is going to call u up a week ahead of time
[17:20] <@RobotNixon> wtf kind of business survives on 200/wk
[17:20] <Ensano> i'm in school for 2 more years... why not have an extra 200$ a week coming in?
[17:20] <@pavhome> 200 a week - sorter + driver fees
[17:20] <@RobotNixon> exactly
[17:21] <@pavhome> so really like .. 40 bucks a week
[17:21] <@RobotNixon> lool
[17:21] <Ensano> yeah... 200- 70 driver - 60 sorter
[17:21] <@x0jan1q> BEST CASE (impossible) SCENARIO: you make a hundred bucks a month while spending a shit load of hours... WORST CASE SCENARIO: throw away money, time, chance at getting sued/prison time
[17:21] <@pavhome> 70 bucks a week
[17:21] <Ensano> what money?
[17:21] <@RobotNixon> -ev imo
[17:21] <Ensano> i don't need to invest money
[17:21] <@x0jan1q> really?
[17:21] <@x0jan1q> how are you going to advertise
[17:21] <@pavhome> a business license?
[17:21] <Ensano> if i can keep an 8 hr day thats' 16 del
[17:21] <@pavhome> A BUSINESS LICENSE?
[17:21] <@RobotNixon> time=money my friend
[17:21] <@pavhome> DO YOU HAVE ONE?
[17:21] <@pavhome> DO YOU EVEN KNOW HOW MUCH ONE COSTS?
[17:21] <Ensano> no liscense if make less than 30k a year
[17:21] <@x0jan1q> are you going to have a website?
[17:22] <@x0jan1q> whos going to take the phone calls
[17:22] <@x0jan1q> you have to be available 24/7
[17:22] <Ensano> no need for a website unless you're going to have an e-commerse site
[17:22] <@pavhome> this is embarassing
[17:22] <@RobotNixon> omg
[17:22] <@x0jan1q> lol, i wouldnt do business with a company that doesnt even have a fkn website
[17:22] <@RobotNixon> no shit
[17:22] <@pavhome> you know like those super awkward tv sitcoms where something awkward happens and you have to change the channel?
[17:22] <Ensano> and as for advertising you don't need to shoot for the moon
[17:23] <@pavhome> this is like that
[17:23] <Ensano> fliers...
[17:23] <@pavhome> i am physically uncomfortable having this discussion
[17:23] <@RobotNixon> I'm sad that I came in here today
[17:23] <@x0jan1q> fliers cost $$
[17:23] <@x0jan1q> and arent very effective
[17:23] <@x0jan1q> youre going to need to print a shit load
[17:23] <@pavhome> and deliver them..
[17:23] <@x0jan1q> design em
[17:23] <Ensano> copier place down the stree charges .05$ a sheet...
[17:23] <@RobotNixon> please copy/paste this into the forum
[17:23] <@pavhome> or pay an envelope stuffer?
[17:24] <@x0jan1q> time time time, $ $ $
[17:24] <@x0jan1q> and you arent making any money
[17:24] <@x0jan1q> lol
[17:24] <@x0jan1q> do you even know your driver's geographical limits?
[17:24] <Ensano> yes
[17:24] <@x0jan1q> i wouldnt trust a moron that will take $7 to spend 30 minutes + gas
[17:25] <Ensano> and you're also forgetting that i would be the sorter...
[17:25] <@x0jan1q> why cant he work at mcdonalds
[17:25] <Ensano> so that 6$ would stay with me
[17:25] <@RobotNixon> so you are going to open a business where you pay yourself $6 per job?
[17:25] <@x0jan1q> so youre happy making like $20 a week max?
[17:25] <Ensano> cause a lot of people just refuse to
[17:25] <@x0jan1q> while working 20+ hours
[17:25] <Ensano> 8 hr day means 16 del
[17:25] <@x0jan1q> $1/hr = the nuts imo
[17:25] <@x0jan1q> i'd be surprised if you can even make $1/hr
[17:26] <Ensano> why
[17:26] <@RobotNixon> you said yourself you only have 10 customers
[17:26] <@x0jan1q> oh, only for the millions reasons 3 ppl listed
[17:26] <Ensano> i said with 135k peopel it wouldn't be hard to find 10 cx
[17:26] <Ensano> people*
[17:27] <@RobotNixon> it's harder than you think
[17:27] <Ensano> hypothetical here for a second...
[17:27] <Ensano> assume for 1 min that i found 16 regular cx
[17:27] <@pavhome> hahahah
[17:27] <Ensano> charged them 20$ each for the service
[17:27] * @pavhome waits for starlight's formula
[17:27] <Ensano> paid 7$ for driver
[17:28] * @pavhome eats popcorn
[17:28] <Ensano> how would i be making 1$/hr?
[17:28] <@pavhome> this is like when starlight didn't understand that gas + hotels also had to be included into his poker calculations
[17:28] <@RobotNixon> fine, you make $6 per job...where does the business profit tho?
[17:28] <@pavhome> "wait i can't just sit there and play for 20 hours a day, every day, forever?"
[17:28] <Ensano> 6$ per job goes to my pocket
[17:28] <Ensano> 7$ per job goes to business
[17:29] <Ensano> 8hrs once a week isn't that hard pav
[17:29] <@RobotNixon> when does this business go live?
[17:29] <@RobotNixon> you think you can just show up on sundays and bang it out
[17:29] <Ensano> it's still in the thought process right now
[17:29] <@RobotNixon> it doesn't work like that in the real world
[17:30] <@RobotNixon> you need to sit down and write a business plan
[17:30] <@x0jan1q> and why are u trusting a complete moron to drive + deliver groceries?
[17:30] <@RobotNixon> and once you have it all out on paper, you will realize what a terrible idea this is
[17:30] <@RobotNixon> there are untold upfront costs that you fail to recognize
[17:30] <Ensano> how is it so terrible?
[17:30] <@RobotNixon> there are untold upfront costs that you fail to recognize
[17:31] <Ensano> like
[17:31] <@x0jan1q> you have to organize the lists, shop, sort
[17:31] <@x0jan1q> but ur also taking orders
[17:31] <@x0jan1q> and advertising
[17:31] <Ensano> order are done the week prior
[17:31] <@x0jan1q> you will be spending more than 8 hours a week
[17:31] <Ensano> guaranteed more than 8 hrs
[17:31] <@x0jan1q> lol, that doesnt matter, DUCY
[17:31] <@x0jan1q> [02:32] <Ensano> order are done the week prior
[17:31] <@RobotNixon> what happens if you get a call on sat for a delivery the next day?
[17:31] <@x0jan1q> jeezus christ
[17:31] <@x0jan1q> thats the most retarded thing ever
[17:31] <@x0jan1q> [02:32] <Ensano> order are done the week prior
[17:31] <@x0jan1q> ROFL
[17:32] <Ensano> why rofl?
[17:32] <@x0jan1q> because im counting your weekly hours
[17:32] <@RobotNixon> what happens if you get a call on sat for a delivery the next day?
[17:32] <@x0jan1q> and you just said the orders are done the week prior
[17:32] <Ensano> depends
[17:32] <@x0jan1q> what about next weeks orders?
[17:32] <@x0jan1q> YOURE STILL DOING ORDERS DURING THE WEEK
[17:32] <@x0jan1q> lmao
[17:32] <@RobotNixon> YOU WILL DENY A POTENTIAL CUSTOMER THIS GREAT SERVICE?
[17:32] <Ensano> no... like mon -fri people are sending in the list for what they want delivered on sun
[17:33] <@x0jan1q> and who is taking the order and organizing everything
[17:33] <@x0jan1q> YOU
[17:33] <Ensano> if someone calls on sat to change taht they wanted jam instead of peanut butter then thats a no brainer... but if a completely new cx wants to order then they'll have to wait
[17:34] <@x0jan1q> why will they have to wait
[17:34] <Ensano> yeah so i take order and organize?
[17:34] <Ensano> because it's too short of a notice
[17:34] <@RobotNixon> so you will make an additional trip to the store for the customer at no charge?
[17:34] <@x0jan1q> how is it too short of a notice?
[17:34] <Ensano> ?
[17:34] <@x0jan1q> you havent gone to the store yet
[17:35] <Ensano> doesn't matter if i haven't gone yet... there's planning involved.. but if they like i can deliver next sun at a certain time
[17:35] <@x0jan1q> ....
[17:35] <@pavhome> wo
[17:35] <@pavhome> wow
[17:35] <@pavhome> just
[17:35] <@pavhome> wow
[17:35] <@x0jan1q> its saturday
[17:35] <@pavhome> you actually think you're doing people a favour
[17:35] <@x0jan1q> and you have a whole day and a half to plan
[17:35] <@pavhome> to charge them 20%+ extra on their groceries
[17:35] <@pavhome> deliver it whenever you want
[17:35] <@pavhome> with no gaurantees
[17:35] <@pavhome> and no real customer service
[17:35] <@x0jan1q> how are you going to keep the produce fresh?
[17:35] <@pavhome> this is embarassing
[17:36] <@x0jan1q> are u going to be sitting inside a grocery store all sunday?
[17:36] <@pavhome> i'm just going to pretend this is BBV
[17:36] * pavhome is now known as BBVer
[17:36] <Ensano> items are packed into containers and item that require it will be stored in coolers
[17:36] <@BBVer> Go for it!
[17:36] <@RobotNixon> each time ensano writes something else I hear kiff from futurama sighing
[17:36] <@BBVer> this is a great idea
[17:36] <@BBVer> do you own coolers?
[17:36] <@BBVer> are you going to buy them?
[17:36] <@BBVer> f*ck it
[17:36] <@BBVer> just put it in the trunk!
[17:36] <@BBVer> and then deliver 16 deliveries
[17:36] <@BBVer> in different parts of the city
[17:36] <@BBVer> without going back to the store
[17:36] <@BBVer> it's not like grocery gateway has full sized insulated cube vans
[17:36] <Ensano> that's not what going to happen pav
[17:37] <@x0jan1q> pav, when deciding how many hours you are going to work a week, don't include the time it takes to plan/organize the orders, because that's done the previous week!
[17:37] <@BBVer> that are basically a giant thermos
[17:37] <@x0jan1q> he's only working 2 hours/week in reality!~
[17:37] <Ensano> but there is no grocery gateway pav... you're fogetting that
[17:37] <@BBVer> yes but you're forgetting
[17:37] <@BBVer> that the groceries can't handle
[17:37] <@BBVer> sitting int he back of a pinto
[17:37] <@BBVer> for 20 hours
[17:37] <@x0jan1q> what are the big grocery stores in your city ensano?
[17:37] <Ensano> they wouldn't
[17:37] <Ensano> superstore
[17:37] <Ensano> independant
[17:37] <Ensano> A&P
[17:37] <Ensano> food basics
[17:37] <Ensano> no frills
[17:38] <Ensano> and a couple others i can't think of
[17:38] <@x0jan1q> what city do u live in
[17:38] <Ensano> sudbury
[17:38] <Ensano> ontario
[17:39] <Ensano> basically it'd work like this pav... i'd set up 2 orders... driver would go out
[17:39] <Ensano> while driver is gone i'd be packing the next 2
[17:39] <@x0jan1q> so youre going to buy everything at once
[17:39] <Ensano> driver comes back... load up again... pack next 2... and so on
[17:39] <@x0jan1q> and let it rot
[17:39] <Ensano> no
[17:39] <@RobotNixon> why not pack as many as possible to increase efficiency?
[17:40] <@BBVer> nixon: that requires vans
[17:40] <@BBVer> fridge vans
[17:40] <Ensano> then you have to worry about cooling/warming and rottin
[17:40] <@BBVer> not like... those tiny coolers we bring to the beach
[17:40] <@BBVer> you also forget
[17:40] <@BBVer> that these people are gonna order
[17:40] <@BBVer> 200 bucks worth of food
[17:40] <Ensano> yeah
[17:40] <@BBVer> to make the delivery worth it
[17:40] <Ensano> exactly
[17:40] <@BBVer> do you have 1500 worth of food space
[17:40] <@RobotNixon> lol
[17:40] <@BBVer> in your house?
[17:40] <@RobotNixon> I do
[17:40] <Ensano> at my house?
[17:40] <@BBVer> in your fridges?
[17:40] <Ensano> oh... yeah i do
[17:40] <@RobotNixon> yes
[17:40] <@BBVer> or are you gonna spend all day packing at teh grocery store?
[17:41] <@BBVer> err.. no you dont?
[17:41] <Ensano> 8 hrs
[17:41] <@BBVer> a box of burgers takes up a couple feet of space
[17:41] <Ensano> you don't think i can store 200$ in groceries?
[17:41] <@BBVer> and costs 10 bucks
[17:41] <@RobotNixon> what happens if you work over 8 hours?
[17:41] <Ensano> lol.. a box of burgers taking 2 quare feet?
[17:41] <@BBVer> 150 boxes of burgers
[17:41] <@BBVer> you have room?
[17:41] <@BBVer> not to mention lettuce
[17:41] <Ensano> i've worked 15$ days before pav... i can handle a 9 hr day once and a while
[17:42] <@BBVer> which costs 50 cents
[17:42] <@BBVer> and takes up a foot of space
[17:42] <@BBVer> and needs very specific refrigiration
[17:42] <@BBVer> and packaging
[17:42] <@BBVer> does your driver have a cube van atleast?
[17:42] <@BBVer> or .. a car?
[17:42] <@RobotNixon> rickshaw
[17:42] <Ensano> because items will be taken off grocery store shelves only a very short amount of time before delivery it wouldn't be any different than
[17:42] <@BBVer> and does he realize the damage that groceries do to his car?
[17:43] <@BBVer> because he doesn't understand that part yet
[17:43] <@BBVer> but he will after 1 week
[17:43] <Ensano> you doing your groceries then stopping for gas on your way out
[17:43] <@BBVer> of throwing boxes in and out of the trunk
[17:43] <@BBVer> and seeing about 100000 scratches and scuffs on his car
[17:43] <Ensano> then hitting a different store to get a sale item before heading home
[17:43] <@BBVer> my dad bought a second minivan
[17:43] <@BBVer> and took out the back 5 seats
[17:43] <@RobotNixon> fuel is going to kill you
[17:43] <@BBVer> just to occasionally deliver from his deli
[17:43] <@BBVer> and the entire car is destroyed
[17:43] <@BBVer> and he's a careful 50 year old mana
[17:43] <@BBVer> taking car of his car
[17:43] <@BBVer> not a 7 buck an hour shlub
[17:44] <Ensano> i understand that the delivery business is very hard on a vehicle
[17:44] <@BBVer> yes but does your driver?
[17:44] <@BBVer> does he realize his camry isnt going to cut it?
[17:44] <Ensano> they're already a delivery driver
[17:44] <@BBVer> .. pizza?
[17:44] <Ensano> used to be
[17:44] <@RobotNixon> stoner?
[17:44] <@BBVer> private fed ex courier?
[17:44] <@BBVer> ....
[17:44] <Ensano> but now they work at
[17:45] <Ensano> one of those quick delivery places...
[17:45] <@BBVer> ??? a courier?
[17:45] <Ensano> like if you need booze but don't have a ride.. or are dying for smokes
[17:45] <@BBVer> they're called couriers
[17:45] <@x0jan1q> so hes willing to make $6/hr (thats once business gets going) while destroying his own car
[17:45] <@BBVer> ah
[17:45] <@x0jan1q> WHY WOULD U TRUST SUCH A MORON
[17:45] <Ensano> 7$/delivery
[17:45] <@BBVer> so he's used to putting in 2 brown bags of groceries
[17:45] <Ensano> 14$/hr
[17:45] <@BBVer> into his car
[17:45] <@x0jan1q> ensano
[17:45] <@BBVer> not 8 crates of oranges and onions
[17:45] <@x0jan1q> he has to pay for gas
[17:45] <@x0jan1q> and 2/hr is being wishful
[17:45] <Ensano> yes
[17:46] <@RobotNixon> let me restate what a terrible idea this is
[17:46] <@x0jan1q> he's wearing out his brakes, putting miles on the engine, going to need more oil changes, etc
[17:46] <@BBVer> hahaha
[17:46] <@x0jan1q> all for hopes of $6/hr
[17:46] <Ensano> ?
[17:46] <@BBVer> THE INSIDE OF HIS CAR WILL LOOK LIKE A f*cking TORNADO WENT THROUGH IT
[17:46] <@BBVer> LISTEN TO ME AND STOP BEING DENSE
[17:46] <Ensano> 13$ per delivery
[17:46] <Ensano> 26$/hr
[17:46] <@x0jan1q> you are trusting a complete dufus to run ur business
[17:46] <@RobotNixon> and smell like hummus
[17:46] <@BBVer> my dad destroyed an entire chrysler town and country minivan
[17:46] <@x0jan1q> HES NOT MAKING 26/HR
[17:46] <@x0jan1q> you moron
[17:46] <@BBVer> delivering twice a day for the past 6 yeras
[17:47] <@RobotNixon> the money you make and the money the business makes should be considered seperate?
[17:47] <@BBVer> that's a minivan
[17:47] <@BBVer> with a plastic liner
[17:47] <@x0jan1q> and what happens if business gets really good... youre going to turn down customers?
[17:47] <Ensano> i know they're seperate
[17:47] <Ensano> i'd be willing to turn down customers
[17:47] <@RobotNixon> so then you aren't making 26/hr
[17:47] <Ensano> or maybe deliver sat and sun
[17:48] <@BBVer> NOBODY WANTS FOOD DELIVERED ON SUNDAY GOD DAMNIT WHY ARENT YOU LISTENING
[17:48] <Ensano> what?
[17:48] <@BBVer> ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY'RE GETTING GOUGED
[17:48] <@RobotNixon> they will if they want this fine service
[17:48] <Ensano> have you gone to a grocery store on sunday pav?
[17:48] <@x0jan1q> ok so u turn down a customer that was ur customer for 5 months
[17:48] <@x0jan1q> the new customer u took on ends up only using ur service once
[17:48] <@x0jan1q> good job
[17:48] <@BBVer> WHY THE f*ck WOULD I PAY 30 BUCKS TO HAVE SOMEONE TELL ME WHEN THEY'RE GOING TO DO THEIR f*cking JOB
[17:48] <Ensano> ?
[17:48] <Ensano> no i would turn down the new customer
[17:48] <@BBVer> do i not want lettuce on thursdays?!
[17:49] <Ensano> 20$ pav
[17:49] <@RobotNixon> so you won't grow your business
[17:49] <@RobotNixon> sounds like a winner
[17:49] <@x0jan1q> the new customer placed his order on monday
[17:49] <@x0jan1q> the returning customer placed the order on friday
[17:49] <Ensano> first off.. you said i would have a hard time filling one day
[17:49] <@BBVer> and believe it or not
[17:49] <@BBVer> people don't want their deliveries throughout the day on sunday
[17:49] <@BBVer> when they're at church until 1
[17:49] * @Misterjokerboy (~Misterjok@91.84.70.19) Quit (Quit: HydraIRC -> http://www.hydrairc.com <- The alternative IRC client)
[17:49] <@BBVer> and every catholic has a big sunday lunch
[17:49] <@BBVer> until 4 pm
[17:49] <@RobotNixon> when thinking about a new business, you have to look at it from all angles, no matter how absurd it might seem
[17:50] <Ensano> i know...
[17:50] <@RobotNixon> like, lots of customers
[17:50] <Ensano> what i would do
[17:50] <@BBVer> everyone you talk to
[17:50] <@BBVer> is going to want a delivery
[17:50] <Ensano> i dedicate one day for deliveries so driver doesn't sit on his hands waiting around
[17:50] <@BBVer> at a very specific 2 hour slot
[17:50] <@BBVer> and they're gonna tell you to f*ck off
[17:50] <@BBVer> when you tell them you're busy
[17:50] <@RobotNixon> ^
[17:51] <@BBVer> im not sure what it is on sunday
[17:51] <Ensano> if i fill that day and still had a huge demand i would consider adding another day but not until i had a few people waiting...
[17:51] <@BBVer> i'm guessing the first one at noon - 2 and then another at 5-8
[17:51] <@BBVer> and never outside of that
[17:51] <@BBVer> nobody wants a delivery at 11 am
[17:51] <@BBVer> or 9 pm
[17:51] <@BBVer> or 4 pm
[17:51] <@BBVer> noone
[17:51] <@BBVer> period
[17:51] <@x0jan1q> ensano
[17:51] <@x0jan1q> u just lost a shit load of customers
[17:51] <@x0jan1q> gj
[17:52] <Ensano> pav... there's people at the grocery store from the first hour it opens to the minute they locke the doors
[17:52] <@x0jan1q> great business plan
[17:52] <@BBVer> [17:53] <Ensano> pav... there's people at the grocery store from the first hour it opens to the minute they locke the doors
[17:52] <@BBVer> how many of them paid admission?
[17:52] <Ensano> sobeys used to be 24 hrs and there'd be at least 5 people at any given time in the store 24/7
[17:52] <@RobotNixon> this isn't serious, right?
[17:52] <@BBVer> yes
[17:52] <@BBVer> there would be 5 people
[17:52] <@BBVer> in it 24/7
[17:52] <@BBVer> in a town of 100k
[17:52] <@BBVer> i believe you
[17:52] <@x0jan1q> and they are buying like 2 items
[17:52] <Ensano> it was in north bay
[17:52] <@RobotNixon> you guys decided to just f*ck with the next guy who joined the channel, right?
[17:52] <@x0jan1q> they arent going to pay u $20 to deliver 2 items
[17:52] <Ensano> no
[17:53] <@BBVer> they are buying chips and pop
[17:53] <@BBVer> because they are high
[17:53] <@BBVer> like me and my friends do
[17:53] <Ensano> there are services that deliver 2 items
[17:53] <@BBVer> when we wander Dominion at 2 am
[17:53] <Ensano> people will pay 20$ to have 200$ in groceries delivered to them
[17:53] <@BBVer> so you want large families
[17:53] <@BBVer> that for some reason have tons of free time
[17:53] <@BBVer> whenever you tell them
[17:53] <@BBVer> don't go to church
[17:53] <Ensano> working families
[17:53] <@RobotNixon> how many people spend $200 at the store when they go
[17:53] <@BBVer> and are free all day every day
[17:54] <Ensano> old people without vehicles ( i know old people will complain more than not)
[17:54] <@RobotNixon> sure the store is full, but very few people spend a lot of money
[17:54] <@BBVer> old people love overpaying for things
[17:54] * @BBVer laughsa
[17:54] <@x0jan1q> old ppl already have arrangements
[17:54] <@RobotNixon> old people will tell you to f*ck right off
[17:54] <@x0jan1q> u think gramps has survived without anyone delivering groceries to him?
[17:54] <@x0jan1q> for 20 years
[17:54] <@x0jan1q> rofl
[17:54] <@BBVer> grandma clips coupons to save 20 cents on panty lniers
[17:55] <@BBVer> and gets all her food on sunday anyways
[17:55] <@x0jan1q> ensano- how are u collecting money?
[17:55] <@BBVer> because the family delivers them groceries on sunday
[17:55] <@BBVer> after they all go to church
[17:55] <@x0jan1q> what happens when u show up to their door and they arent home or they say "i dont want this anymore"
[17:55] <Ensano> all apps will be given a 30min -1 hr window pav...
[17:55] <@x0jan1q> there goes your monthly profit, ROFL
[17:56] <Ensano> true... someone doing that could f*ck things up...
[17:56] <Ensano> there are ways around that though
[17:56] <@x0jan1q> what ways
[17:56] <Ensano> 100$ dep
[17:56] <@RobotNixon> lol
[17:56] <@x0jan1q> .....
[17:56] <@RobotNixon> lofl
[17:56] <Ensano> paying in advance
[17:56] <@x0jan1q> im going to trust some kid in a beater with $100
[17:56] <Ensano> ?
[17:56] <Ensano> what's funny?
[17:56] <@RobotNixon> this is officially the most retarded thing I've heard in my life
[17:56] <Ensano> you've never paid a deposit on anything?
[17:56] <@x0jan1q> how are u collecting the deposit?
[17:56] <@x0jan1q> youre going to drive to their house a week before delivery?
[17:56] <Ensano> how do i collect the order?
[17:56] <@x0jan1q> they phone it in
[17:57] <@x0jan1q> they cant phone $100 in
[17:57] <Ensano> you think i'm going to sit there and have someone list a 200$ grocery order to me?
[17:57] <@x0jan1q> .......
[17:57] <@x0jan1q> so how are u taking orders?
[17:57] <@x0jan1q> ROFL
[17:57] <@x0jan1q> you dont have a website
[17:57] <@RobotNixon> so you want someone to prepay you to pick up their groceries, and you want someone else to deliver them in a car that you don't own

[18:02] <Ensano> how can i help you?
[18:03] <@x0jan1q> Yes, i was wondering where you get your groceries from
[18:03] <Ensano> well we operate mainly out of the Superstore in New Sudbury. Why? were you interested in have your groceries delivered?
[18:04] <@x0jan1q> *click*
[18:04] <@x0jan1q> i wanted em from food 4 less
[18:04] <@RobotNixon> fail
[18:04] <Ensano> <--- rolls eyes
[18:04] <@RobotNixon> You can't get spcific with customers about where you get your product
[18:04] <@RobotNixon> just tell them you have agreements with many local stores
[18:05] <@x0jan1q> but then they will want em from X store
[18:05] <@x0jan1q> ppl have a preference
[18:05] <Ensano> well unfortunately for better service we find that offering through one store is simpler... but i can assure you that Superstore has some of the best prices and quality products...
[18:05] <@x0jan1q> a lot shop by perceptions of quality or price
[18:05] <@RobotNixon> fail
[18:05] <Ensano> i know people have a preference... but they tend to get over it sometime
[18:06] <@x0jan1q> every single decision you make has limited your customer pool
[18:06] <Ensano> ok try again... this time the person doesn't have a prob with superstore
[18:06] <@RobotNixon> omg
[18:06] <@x0jan1q> your 135k city is now a 2 person hick town
[18:06] <Ensano> ?
[18:06] <@BBVer> roleplay is fun!
[18:06] <Ensano> 135k people lots of people shop at superstore
[18:06] <Ensano> <@x0jan1q> RING RING
[18:06] <Ensano> [18:02] <Ensano> and wait for a responce can i can only type so fast

[18:06] <Ensano> [18:02] <Ensano> tello... Ensano delivery( not real name)
[18:06] <Ensano> [18:02] <Ensano> hello*
[18:06] <Ensano> [18:02] <Ensano> how can i help you?
[18:06] <Ensano> [18:03] <@x0jan1q> Yes, i was wondering where you get your groceries from
[18:06] <Ensano> [18:03] <Ensano> well we operate mainly out of the Superstore in New Sudbury. Why? were you interested in have your groceries delivered?
[18:06] <@x0jan1q> ok yes im interested in delivery, i'd like 3 potatoes and a tomato
[18:07] <@x0jan1q> ok yes im interested in delivery, i'd like 3 potatoes and a tomato
[18:07] <Ensano> well ok that wouln't be a problem but just to let you know there is a 20$ delivery charge so I would suggest if you wanted a delivery to consider possibly making a larger order
[18:07] <@RobotNixon> that'll be $42
[18:08] <@x0jan1q> but i thought u werent taking orders over the phone
[18:08] <@x0jan1q> now u are?
[18:08] <@RobotNixon> telepathically
[18:08] <Ensano> <--- rolls eyes... i'd take a 3 item order dumbass,
[18:08] <@x0jan1q> i want 3 potatoes a tomato, and x x x x x x x x x
[18:09] <Ensano> ok well since you are deciding to make a larger order what I'll suggest is that you write it down and if you have an email of fax to send it in...
[18:09] <@RobotNixon> your customers are really going to be pissed with you
[18:09] <@x0jan1q> are you going to cut off the customer
[18:09] <@x0jan1q> or wait until after they list 90 items
[18:09] <@RobotNixon> and who has a fax machine, seriously
[18:10] <Ensano> lol... you politely cut them off
[18:10] <Ensano> lol... i have one
[18:10] <@RobotNixon> by the time these people write a 90 item list, they could have gone to the store themselves
[18:10] <Ensano> or if you don't have email of a fax i can always stop by and pick up the list from you
[18:11] <@RobotNixon> more gas/time $$$
[18:11] <Ensano> true
[18:11] <@RobotNixon> you will be bleeding cash
[18:11] <Ensano> not necessarily...
[18:11] <@RobotNixon> good thing you only have 10 cx or this would ruin you
[18:12] <Ensano> a lot of people develope regular grocery needs
[18:12] <@RobotNixon> you might be able to get out of it only losing a few grand
[18:12] <@x0jan1q> you need to let this go ensano
[18:12] <Ensano> once they have their regular order down.. changeing a couple items over the phone isn't a big deal
[18:13] <@RobotNixon> who is x0jan?
[18:13] <@x0jan1q> flip ur head upside down
[18:13] <@BBVer> bluefox
[18:13] <@x0jan1q> DO YOU NOT READ UPSIDE DOWN?!
[18:13] <@RobotNixon> not regularly
[18:14] <Ensano> ok.. keep trying to convince me
[18:14] <Ensano> i've got the order...
[18:14] <@RobotNixon> you are obviously beyond convincing
[18:14] <@BBVer> [18:13] <Ensano> a lot of people develope regular grocery needs
[18:14] <Ensano> no no
[18:14] <@BBVer> this is literally 100% wrong
[18:14] <Ensano> i'm writing all this down
[18:15] <@BBVer> and i know this from having a family deli
[18:15] <@BBVer> in my family
[18:15] <@BBVer> which is what we do for a living
[18:15] <@BBVer> this
[18:15] <@BBVer> exactly what you're talking about
[18:15] <@BBVer> and you're ignoring everything i say
[18:15] <@BBVer> and im having trouble not laughing
[18:15] <Ensano> earlier you were talking about catholics having a problem with the service cause it interrupts church
[18:15] <@BBVer> my dad literally delivers groceries for a living
[18:16] <@BBVer> im telling you that absolutely no one in small town ontario wants a delivery before 2pm on a sunday
[18:16] <@BBVer> because they are either in church or having a weekly lunch
[18:16] <Ensano> no matter what you do in the world someone can find a specific example of someone who it bothers
[18:16] <@BBVer> which is common for italians, portuguese, russians, etc
[18:16] <Ensano> i live in a different city pav
[18:17] <@BBVer> errr more people go to church in sudbury than toronto?
[18:17] <Ensano> lol... besides... del day would prob be sat anyways
[18:17] <@BBVer> so you're gonna give up your saturdays forever for 70 bucks?
[18:17] <@BBVer> and your gfs
[18:17] <Ensano> 16*6=96
[18:17] <@RobotNixon> JUST 8 HOURS
[18:17] <@luckred> wpw
[18:18] <@luckred> still talking boot this
[18:18] <Ensano> wpw?
[18:18] <@luckred> canadian cunts
[18:18] <@luckred> wow
[18:18] <@luckred> i find it lol how canadians say boot
[18:18] <@luckred> instead of bout
[18:18] <@RobotNixon> I would love to stay in and participate, but I gotta jet
[18:18] <@BBVer> we don't say boot
[18:18] * RobotNixon is now known as ZINNoot
[18:18] <@BBVer> we say something like abow-out
[18:19] <@x0jan1q> abow-out ? no ud ont
[18:19] <@BBVer> yes we do
[18:19] <Ensano> abute...
[18:19] <@x0jan1q> a-bow-out
[18:19] <@x0jan1q> owow
[18:20] <@luckred> well in some its less pronounced than others
[18:20] <@luckred> but boot is pretty much what u say
[18:20] <@x0jan1q> aboot
[18:20] <@x0jan1q> youre forgetting the a
[18:20] <Ensano> anyways i'm off...
[18:20] <@luckred> yea
[18:21] <@x0jan1q> only way ur thing works
[18:21] <Ensano> i'll post this topic in the forum...
[18:21] <Ensano> after supper
[18:21] <@luckred> heh wp zin
[18:24] <@x0jan1q> in the states u can get groceries delivered for $7... and that's picking any time you want + seeing the price of your list
[18:24] <@x0jan1q> $20 for a shitty window + not knowing wtf youre going to get = lol
[18:25] <Ensano> but gas costs more
[18:25] <Ensano> gas is like 5.7$/gal
[18:25] <Ensano> and it's northern ontario
[18:26] <Ensano> no competition...
[18:26] <@x0jan1q> that means the delivery here with that gas price = 80 cents more
[18:27] <@x0jan1q> $7.8
[18:27] <@x0jan1q> anyways, the only way ur business works is if you spent a shit load of $$ and teamed up with a store
[18:28] <@x0jan1q> and take a loss for a while
[18:29] <@BBVer> yeah .. like 4-10 years while
[18:30] <@x0jan1q> actually, dont even think it would ever work but w/e
[18:36] <@luckred> ye same like bluey says in uk

[19:22] <@BBVer> you're being stupid
[19:22] <@BBVer> you dont want constructive criticism
[19:22] <@BBVer> you want people to tell you that your bad idea is good
[19:22] <@BBVer> without living in the real world
[19:23] <@BBVer> then fine. your idea is great and you're gonna succeed easily
[19:23] <@BBVer> have fun

[19:26] <@BBVer> wow the intro of PAD is pretty sick now
[19:27] <@Ensano> what i don't like about most of your points is they go something liek this
[19:27] <@Ensano> "wow you're stupid... this idea is stupid..rofl"

[17:08] <@RobotNixon> terrible idea
[17:08] <Ensano> why?
[17:08] <@RobotNixon> as pav mentioned, gas and food prices keep rising
[17:08] * @pavhome (supafrey@bas1-toronto61-1279436392.dsl.bell.ca) Quit (Excess Flood)
[17:08] <Ensano> yes... i don't buy in advance
[17:09] * pavhome (supafrey@bas1-toronto61-1279436392.dsl.bell.ca) has joined #THP
[17:09] <Ensano> i receive the order from the cx
[17:09] * SX`away sets mode: +o pavhome
[17:49] * @Misterjokerboy (~Misterjok@91.84.70.19) Quit (Quit: HydraIRC -> http://www.hydrairc.com <- The alternative IRC client)
[17:57] <@RobotNixon> so you want someone to prepay you to pick up their groceries, and you want someone else to deliver them in a car that you don't own
[17:57] <Ensano> email... fax... i can pick them up
[17:57] <Ensano> i can pick up a check...
[17:58] <@x0jan1q> so youre flyer is going to say "WE CAN DRIVE TO PICK UP UR ODER, BUT U HAVE TO GIVE US $100 AND WAIT UNTIL SUNDAY"
[17:58] <@RobotNixon> why don't you just stand in the store parking lot and shake people down
[17:58] <@x0jan1q> "OR YOU CAN EMAIL ENSANO@HOTMAIL.COM"
[17:58] <@x0jan1q> REAL PROFESSIONAL
[17:58] <@x0jan1q> rofl
[17:58] <@BBVer> OH AND PLEASE EMAIL ME A LIST OF STUFF THAT YOU WANT
[17:58] <Ensano> the whole point of the business is to get a regular clientelle
[17:58] <Ensano> a regular cx you don't have to worry that much about
[17:58] <@BBVer> I DONT HAVE SPECIALS OR A REGULAR STORE OR A FLIER SO JUST TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT AND ILL SEE IF I CAN FIND FOOD THATS SORT OF LIKE THAT
[17:58] <@x0jan1q> "WE CAN DRIVE TO PICK UP UR ODER, BUT U HAVE TO GIVE US $100 AND WAIT UNTIL SUNDAY FOR THE FOOD"
[17:58] <@x0jan1q> "WE CAN DRIVE TO PICK UP UR ODER, BUT U HAVE TO GIVE US $100 AND WAIT UNTIL SUNDAY FOR THE FOOD"
[17:58] <@x0jan1q> roffffffl
[17:59] <@RobotNixon> old folk definitely won't be using this service
[17:59] <@RobotNixon> you'll be on the news for scamming
[17:59] <@RobotNixon> is Gid in on this venture?
[17:59] <Ensano> lol
[17:59] <@BBVer> OH AND GIVE ME A HUNDRED BUCKS, IN CASE YOU DONT LIKE THE QUALITY OF THE FOOD WE DELIVER AND THEN WE CAN TELL YOU TO GO f*ck YOURSELVES AND JUST STEAL YOUR DEPOSIT TO PAY FOR THE BRUISED APPLES YOU DONT WANT
[17:59] <@BBVer> BECAUSE THIS IS HOW COMMERCE WORKS IN A SMALL TOWN WHERE THE ONLY REAL ADVERTISING IS WORD OF MOUTH
[18:00] <Ensano> ok... how about this...
[18:00] <Ensano> a roleplay...
[18:00] <Ensano> you're a cx calling...

[18:06] <Ensano> [18:02] <@x0jan1q> RING RING

[18:18] * RobotNixon is now known as ZINNoot

[18:24] <@x0jan1q> $20 for a shitty window + not knowing wtf youre going to get = lol
[18:25] <Ensano> but gas costs more
[18:25] <Ensano> gas is like 5.7$/gal
[18:25] <Ensano> and it's northern ontario
[18:26] <Ensano> no competition...
[18:26] <@x0jan1q> that means the delivery here with that gas price = 80 cents more
[18:27] <@x0jan1q> $7.8
[18:27] <@x0jan1q> anyways, the only way ur business works is if you spent a shit load of $$ and teamed up with a store

[19:22] <@BBVer> you're being stupid
[19:22] <@BBVer> you dont want constructive criticism
[19:22] <@BBVer> you want people to tell you that your bad idea is good
[19:22] <@BBVer> without living in the real world
[19:23] <@BBVer> then fine. your idea is great and you're gonna succeed easily
[19:23] <@BBVer> have fun
[19:23] <@BBVer> being broke forever
[19:23] <@Ensano> i specifically state that i want criticisms

[19:24] <@BBVer> instead of just flippantly ignoring our real suggestions as us being tools
[19:24] <@BBVer> we humoured your idea for wayyyy longer than the quality of it deserved
[19:26] <@BBVer> wow the intro of PAD is pretty sick now
[19:27] <@Ensano> what i don't like about most of your points is they go something liek this
[19:27] <@Ensano> "wow you're stupid... this idea is stupid..rofl"

I didnt read your entire conversation, but from your original comments you arent making enough to deal with the headaches of owning your own business.
The thing that I would LOVE for my wife to start is a pet daycare. She is a vet tech and loves animals already. Several in the area are doing very well.
People here love their animals but are also being more 2 income households and at times are gone long hours. They charge $12-15/day and add in walks and meals for extra fees. Many handle 20-40/day. Plus, they can board overnight and charge more.
Run the number on that and see what you cashflow for 2-4 people.
The best part, your "customers" never complain.

i skimmed this cause it's late here (here is live from NY and then NJ).
two points. The deposit idea won't work. No one would chance it. Might try a monthly fee or keep credit cards numbers in a database ( if people trusted you enough}. Two, if you screw up an order who pays? Can you afford a lose?
I know of US companies who let you place orders then deliver to you in a few days after your order.
Personally, I think you should think more before sinking your money into an idea. Dave's is better idea yet. It has less start up cost and a better profit margin VS cost.
Personally the GF should just rent your ass out as a clown or servant and collect all he money...lol.

failed everytime.
i think size of city can be a huge factor to overcome..
too small of an area means too few willing customers...
too large... and you spend too much time driving around you'd have to charge 40$ a delivery..

company near me does pretty much exactly this as does very well. But i live in a notoriously hippy town and everyone loves the idea of a box of organic vegtables delivered to your door.
But over here pretty much every supermarket does a home delivery system. So there is barely a niche left in the market
