A little known Stud poker fact

Postby HalfSugar » Fri Jun 26, 2009 2:13 pm GMT

I've just learnt something new and I thought I'd share it :)

We all know that in Stud (though NOT Stud-8) if a player has paired up on 4th, they can make a double bet but did you know that if that player chooses to check/single bet, the other players on that betting round can choose to make a double sized bet/raise? I had no idea until just know when a guy with 22 up checked, the next guy single bet and I had the option to single or double raise. I figured that if the paired guy didn't take the option, 4th continued as if there was no pair up.

Yeah, essentially 4th street becomes an "optional" big bet street when there is a paired board in Stud high.
