A Must Read, I WANT EVERYONES OPINION?
For those who know me...you were right, this will be a lengthy post, but I pray not to keep it boring.
In the last 4 big tournys I have played in since I posted about building a big stack and seeing it through to the end I have come a full 180. I posted about my taking 5th in a 1400+ person tournament! I played in another tournament consisting of 1300 and change people onboard. I placed 11th only taking that because of yes KK being cracked by 2 unders, not that I really care now hehe:) I placed yes lucky 13th in 1400 and change. My new wife is getting giddy at this point lol. So tonight I figure I have some time to kill and heck Ill do something to break the routine of holdem holdem holdem. I played a Pot-Limit Omaha tourny on PokerStars. I thought worse case I drop 10 bucks to kill an hour. I have played Omaha for maybe 90mins in my whole life and that was play money probably a year ago. 117 people decided to join me in the quest! The top 18 places paid out and I thought to myself NO WAY, but no player ever won by thinking that.
I survived to the first break with a better than even stack and we left behind 65 or so people. This was amazing to me to drop 50% of the field by the first break. I felt good, and was making plays I felt to be solid. I manage to survive to the next break and we are left with 30 or so players. I think it would be nice to have free-rolled this and make atleast 18th for some money! I finally finished 15th of 117. I had a set cracked by a river flush after he went runner runner for it hehe ohwell, no hurt feelings here.
I look at this and think, I have really never played Omaha and I survive 102 players. It was a blast to say the least and I plan on alteast trying this one again. I liked the action people gave and the pot limit cap was nice to see some cheap flops early on.
I cant really figure what suddenly clicked in my head for me to do so well. I had really felt like I had mastered the SNG tournament and thought that anything over 1000 people was a dudes lucky day, and that I wouldnt see any of that. Here I am suddenly on the other side really feeling good. I hope this isnt some cosmic streak of good fortune, cause it sure missed my power ball ticket this last weekend hehe!:):) I played in a 4 person heads up elimination tourny on PS's about an hour before I played Omaha. I took both of my opps. out to take the title. I am really playing well.
Could this last 2 weeks get better? YES! I was chatting with my wife and said on our 21st we should goto Vegas, which would be the last week of April when she turns the big 21! I told her, honey if we go I may not want to come back ever again, being a Colorado resident currently, she said ok. I figured that was that. I come to find out she is looking at transfering college credits to a college in Nevada, also she was researching the cost of living and all that financial stuff hehe. All of this without telling me. How cool is it when the most important person in your life is supporting you in something that means a great deal to you. She said when she gets out of school and into a teaching job I can play all the poker I want and she wont say a word. WOW uh hu?
I ramble, sorry guys hehe.
So in a 2 week span, I score big in some tournys, the money comes and goes but the feeling you get when you make a final table from 1500 people is something that never goes away. Then having my wife support me in turning full pro in the future. **Stabs self with fork** Still here hmmmm?
I work only 1 day in the next 12, godbless paid vacations. I am going to play as much poker as possible and see how I do. I havent had the chance to be away from work long enough to really stab at this. Can a week and a half vacation pretending to be a full time pro get any better? Wish me luck!
