AKQJT off suit question

Postby Dra » Thu Mar 25, 2004 10:06 pm GMT

if I have Ace and a 7, and someone has an Ace and a King, and the flop shows a KQJT, all off suit, who wins?

I have no idea, I thought we split, but i lost all of my bet.

If you both have an ace than you both have an ace high straight. Unless one of you has something better than an ace high straight (like a flush) you split the pot. You have the same hand. The 6th card (k vs 7) doesn't matter because this is a 5 card game, not 6.

You need to have a little discussion with whoever told you that they won that pot. If they were saying that their K kicker wins then they were wrong. Best five cards. No kicker used to make a straight.

Or they just don't know themselves. In holdem, the BEST FIVE CARDS make the hand. So you had the same hand .. . his extra king is irrelevant because he isn't using it to make his best five cards. You had the same hand and should have split the pot!
