an idea...
So Crack and I have been talking lately. We think THP should set up some sort of voice chat server on Ventrilo or TeamSpeak. We usually just freeload off of someone else's server, but Supa got us banned from PennyArcade and recently we've been hanging out on some strange cult's server. How about it vyni? Can this be done?

Actually, it had completely slipped my mind.
Regardless of what we do of it long term, I'll personally throw a teamspeak up for Saturdays wsop seat (if not on one of my servers, then off my home tower). I'll throw the address up here in the forums Friday night or Saturday morning.
For regular irc chatters, we'll post up a room during the tourney too.

Alrighty.
Its late, and I'm not running this on any of my servers till I've seen her in action a bit... So I installed the teamspeak server on one of my home systems. Routers forwarding, a domains pointed. Tada we have a temporary voice chat for the tourney.
I pointed talk.gaimr.com at it: computers sitting on a 6M comcast line, but upstream varies from 256 to 512 on it (if she runs well from here, and players utilize it, then I'll get her on a decent pipe in future). Default teamspeak port (8767). If for any reason mother nature decides to knock the connection or power off though.... what's the chances.
For those who would like to join in: you'l need the teamspeak client, which you can get by clicking here.
You do not have to talk with the client: you can simply listen in if you'ld like (just leave your mic out, or you can disable your mic from the client options).
For those that have never used it, you'll find when you run the client, the top left menu item is 'Connection', click it and select 'Quick Connect'.
The following window will open: simply enter talk.gaimr.com as the Server Address, your nickname for the session as the Nickname, and click Connect. That's it. You'll connect to a default room, which we'll use for this tourney.
If anyone cares to hop on before the tourney, have at it. It's up and running now. I'm afraid I wont be available during the tourney
so good luck to everyone who has qualified. I'll check in to see who won later in the evening.
For those who would prefer a standard irc chatroom, the 'unofficial' thp chat has been in the #THP channel on quakenet.
Again, good luck to all!

Simply posting this to all related threads:
THP now has its own chat server to be dedicated to the community (irc.texasholdem-poker.com), and moments ago, we launched a teamspeak server for voice chats.
First thing in the coming week, we'll begin to promote the chat features to the community, add a browser based java chat applet for users that do not have (or simply cannot figure out) chat clients, and add extensive help pages for these new chat features.
In the meantime, you can find easy linkage to these chats in the "who's online" section of the forum index (found at borrom of page) on texasholdem-poker.com. These stats and links will be released on thpblog as well later.
