Another Pretty Good Poker Movie
"Heist" written and directed by David Mamet. It's not exactly a poker movie, but it was written by a popular screenwriter / playwright in Los Angeles. David was the guy who brought us "Glengarry Glen Ross"... another one of my favs. This movie stars Gene Hackman and Danny Devito.
My Dad rented the movie and he usually has a sour taste in movie rentals... i caught the last end of the movie, and Gene's character did a lot of "bluffing" to pull off a heist... and then at the end the Gene character mentions a "bad beat" then I knew something was up. I watched the credits and sure enough it was written and directed by David, a man who knows how to play some serious poker.

Well, the movie "Maverick", is on now right as I speak. It deals w/5-card draw but it's pretty interesting in how the main character picks up tells, and IMO reads are some on the most interesting moves in poker. Anyway, I've heard of, "The Cincinatti Kid", as well. I think it' an older movie although I have never rented it. Perhaps you would like to check that out.

I think I've seen every movie in the last 30 years with a poker game in it. Nobody has done a game any better than David Mamet in "House of Games." The game--which is actually a set-up for shaking down a shrink--has an absolutely authentic ring, with table talk that could have been written by guys I play with.
