Anyone ordered "Cards & Dice" molds from Poker
Has anyone ordered (and perhaps posted pics) of the "Cards & Dice" mold chips from Pokerchips.com? I've seen photos of every other mold, except the C&D mold.
One concern I have about the C&D mold is that folks who initially see them will automatically think: "what a nice set of PVC, metal slug-infested, Costco chips". (However, I'm sure these chips handle as nicely as the other samples I've received from Pokerchips.com.)
Thanks -

Re: Anyone ordered "Cards & Dice" molds from P
Take a look at http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1185 , in particular to the posts from Jimb. I believe that is Jim Blanchard, the former producction manager from the Burt Company who bought their molds and started ASM (i.e. the owner). I think the mold that you're referring to is often called the Diecard mold and along with the Nevada mold, was originally owned by the Nevada Dice Company (which later changed to just the name of the owner, Bud Jones). The Burt Company produced all of the chips on those two molds for the Bud Jones Company, as well as those prized H&C chips for another Las Vegas company called Paul-Son. According to Blanchard's posting, the Burt Company produced all of the compressed 'clay' chips from the 40s-late70's with the exception of the small and large Crown molds that were produced by TR King.

Oh! I didn't even notice that
and I was on that page the other day. That sure is the old Diecard mold. I guess you already know that the other Bud Jones mold, the Nevada mold is now at Blue Chip, making chips for Nevada Jacks.

PocketRocket, you are a wealth of knowledge! Thanks again for all of your info.
I've got a box full of "blank" chips that are identical to the NJ "Las Vegas" molds sitting right here in my desk, and you can definitely see the similiarities between the Diecard and the Nevada molds.
This is a whole new question, but I was told that the chips I have are "Borland" chips. What is the connection, if any, between Borland, Burt, Bud Jones and Blue Chip?
Thanks again for letting me tap your knowledge.

That would be Bill Borland. I think he was involved in some counterfeiting of chips using the Nevada Mold. I'm afraid I don't have the details though I'm sure there is some sort of web article floating around or something from one of the chip collecting sites. Might also want to google on the name and 'counterfeiting' or 'Nevada mold'
I think Borland did own the Nevada and Diecard molds in the 90s though the chips were being made by ASM or Burt. I would guess that he bought the molds from the Bud Jones company and they somehow ended up in ASM's ownership after his death. Actually the common belief that the Burt Company became ASM is not entirely accurate. The Burt Company as a business was actually purchased by another Burt manager named John Kendall who subsequently renamed the company Chipco. The Burt Company dies were purchased by Jim Blanchard who started ASM.
I don't think there is any relationship with Blue Chip other than the fact that the they are producing chips with the Nevada mold for Nevada Jacks who says that they now own the Nevada mold. The Blue Chip company is purported owned and operated by the family of the late Paul Endy Jr, the founder of Paul-Son.
I don't know if there is any value to those blank chips that you have, but I'd sure check before you do anything with then like continue to use them in your weekly games, It finally dawned on me a while back to stop using the 25¢ Circus Circus chips that I had been using as quarter chips, as they might be worth a bit more that a quarter these days
