You make some very good points. Probably the best one is quoted above. As far as speeding up the game, that's not my intention - I'm basically a lazy fugger that is looking for any opportunity to get away from doing any kind of work wherever possible

yeah, it'd be nice to not have to worry about shuffling... play with one deck while the other is being shuffled.

That was exactly my thought as well - plus, with someone (something?) else doing the shuffling, I have more time to enjoy my beers

I have one of the cheapo 1-2 deck automatic card shufflers. It has good points and bad points. It shuffles cards OK. Lots of people can shuffle better but of course I am not lots of people. I suck at shuffling and it does about as good a job as I can but a lot faster. It is somewhat noisy too. It has this plastic lever thing that flips back and forth and makes a loud clacking sound. You could probably take the cover off and put a small peice of foam on it to stop this. In fact I think I might try this. What's the worst that happens, it breaks? Who cares! That's what the best part is. You can get one for $12-$15 so if you don't like it or it breaks you aren't out that much.
I'd recommend two things to help with shuffling. An absolute requirement in my opinion is to have three decks of cards in different colors. Personally I have a burgundy, green and blue deck of poker size super index Kem cards. Any will do as long as they are different colors. While using one deck for the current hand the next people in line or people who have folded can shuffle the other two decks. Since they are different colors there is no issue with cheating or accidentally mixing the cards up.
I'd also go to a store and check out a 1-2 deck automatic shuffler. Try one out at the store (they almost always have one setup so you can try it) and see if it's too loud or cumbersome to use. Unless you absolutely hate it I'd get one anyways. They are only like $12-$15 and can be useful to have around. You might play with people bad at shuffling so they can use it, or sometimes you might be playing shorthanded or even alone (like solitare) and simply don't feel like shuffling yourself.
2 things to help with shuffling. Go to a store and try one of these out. They may not be terribly impressive but for $12 I think it's worth having one if only for those times you're playing solitare and don't feel like shuffling anymore.

Thanks for the heads up.
I just can't understand how come there are no companies that are jumping on the auto card shuffler bandwagon? I mean, I can't be the ONLY person in the world that would love to have a mid-grade shuffler - something that is of higher quality than the $15-20 machines, but less than the $14k machines. I'd have no problem spending $50-100 on a decent quality shuffler. Amazing.

What I find amazing is that anyone can actually produce and sell a shuffling machine for 14 thousand dollars. You mean a couple of mechanical engineers can't go into their garage and make one for, say $9000 and undercut the market? How many things smaller than a breadbox could you NOT make for 9 or 10 grand?

I had this idea, but it wouldnt exactly be pretty. Also, keep in mind i've not yet tried this or bought a shuffler. here goes:
Why not buy a few (2-3) shufflers and take them apart... Rig them up one on top of the other so that once the first shuffler shuffles the cards then drop into the feed leaves for the next shuffler... etc. That way you could have the deck shuffled as many times as needed (or as tall as you want the machine to be).
This seems like a fun enough project to keep me occupied for a while, and at $10 for the cheap shufflers it sounds affordable enough to me. I'll keep ya posted if i actually attempt it. OR, if anyone else wants to give something like this a shot... shoot me an email (or PM) and we can compare ideas.
