Bankrolls - maintain online vs pay as you go
My friend that is starting out at online poker wants to manage his bankroll more or less the way he does his live play. He wants to buy in when he wants to play, then cash out when he's done.
He doesn't maintain a separate BR for his live play. He just pulls money out of his bank, plays, and deposits winnings back in.
Other than the obvious time delay in dealing with cash outs, does anyone have any thoughts one way or another on doing it this way?

Interesting Question
There is no doubt that the mechanics of funding an online account (for Americans at least) argue for keeping more money on deposit. On the other hand, the online sites are sitting on multiple millions of dollars (billions?) and you know that they are earning interest on it that we aren't getting.
I've been thinking of this a bit lately. I've got $1,500 on deposit which is waaayy more than I need for my usual $2/4 or $3/6 ring games but not enough for me to be ready to step up to $5/10. I think that my worst losing month was being down $200 and change so I really don't think I need more than $500 on deposit. I could be making 3% on a CD which means $30 on my 'excess' $1,000. Is that worth it?
KEEPING IT ON DEPOSIT--PROs
1. Keep it away from my wife
2. Avoid hassle of redepositing if needed
3. Be ready to step up to higher stakes when needed
KEEPING IT ON DEPOSIT--CONs
1. Loss of interest (or other use)
2. Loss of deposit bonuses for redepositing the same money
3. Risk of having money tied up (or lost) in the event of a regulatory or legal challenge*
* I had several hundred dollars tied up in Neteller when they ran into their regulatory troubles. I think that this issue alone might be enough to encourage many people to keep more money 'off line'.

i believe as long as you have a reliable method of depositing you should keep only so much online...
here in canada you can do an echeck transfer and stars will front you the money till the transaction clear...
this mean that if i go busto at any moment i can have more money online... so why really keep more than 10 buyins online then i play maybe 2k hands a month...
rest sits in a high-interest savings account earning 3%...
granted i play micro limits and for someone like gumbie or mia moving 10s of 1000s of dollars around may be quite a bit harder..
but even then say they have 30 BI for 5000NL
keeping 10 online and 20 in an account earning 3% means 250$/month of a loss... doesn't sound like much but thats 60bb a year...

Requested a Cashout
I just requested a cashout of $700 (my first ever) from PokerStars leaving me with about $550 on deposit. I'll be putting it in a separate (not joint) savings account available for my poker use. Stars says it will take about 15 days for the check to arrive.
