Banning people
I just noticed MaxRounder's ban, some URL in his sig from what I gather.
However, he still had the pm button on there.
Is banning really just disallowing posts? Not that anyone would contact them, but I wonder if those possibilities shoudl be eliminated too.
Also, a curiousity question: why are people banned and not simply removed? Something in the software, or just that's the procedure?

Banned status just lets others know we'll do it. Also, leaving them there banned allows us to look back at them: relate them to new accounts/attempts. In this guys case, he has been spamming his url so much that I actually altered the forum script to replace the domain in posts, like a censor. He realized this and this latest account was a measure to side step that by putting it in his signature.
Persistent lil bugger. His domain is a party affiliate, and I'm going to propose that we start talks with party and other casinos/poker rooms on ways to discourage spammers (shut them down after x violations). Surely the affiliate programs does not condone this behavior, but I imagine they're reluctant to enforce such policies.
I wanted to wait untill the new forum script was in before I wrote my spammers mod, but might just go ahead and write one for these scripts anyways.

AFAIK Goldie, his being banned means that whenever he tries to log in he gets a message saying "you have been banned so you can't login." So even tho his posts are still on the forum along with his PM button etc. (for reasons explained, he will never see his PM's.
