basic blinds question
If you put in the blind (for the sake of giving it a number call it $10 blind big small is irrevelent) and you wish to stay in so you call then someone else bets $10 do you have to put in money to stay or does you blind count as this money. Or is it that the money is simply your need to put in a blind and does not count as any bet in the hand.

blind=forced bet. (sort of)
So when you put in the big blinds you actually raised the pot. Now if anyone want to play they need to call or raise your bet. If someone just call (ie, put $10 in the pot) you have the option of checking or raising. If someone raises (ie put $20 or more) then you need to call for the difference (so if they put $20 you need to put $10 more)

I figured it was something like that. I have played once or twice. even a casino game ( my first hand was a full boat, loved the game ever since) but they never really used the blinds or it was never adaquately explianed to me. in years past I was something of a calling station so I may not have noticed anyway. Sad but I am reading. I am actually working on an exercise to teach myself when and how to fold. It was one of my bigger problems 3 years ago when I played. I am sort of getting serious now. I mean the kind of serious where you smarten up your game enough not to win millions, but to add to the income sinificantly. I have a mind for math and stats and the rest is learned experence which will come. picking the right game will be my big difficulty as I live in australia. any ideas where to begin

I highly recommend finding a good book for the type of game you're playing (limit or no limit). There are a few threads on this forum that give good examples. Sorry, but I'm entirely too hungover to link them here.
