betting (not when to) the machenics

Postby nuke1234 » Sun Nov 18, 2007 12:22 am GMT

I would like to play limit poker but I find that noone want to tell you exactly how the betting works mostly so you have to ask stupid questions like "what is the max bet just now".

If you were playing $5/$10 poker what exactly does that mean. I have pocket rockets do I bid $5 if noone raises can I reraise myself. how many raises are permissiable.
In the flop round betting before the turn. $5/$10 implies that the bet is now $10 or nothing. can I raise if checked. can someone else raise if I check. can I bet less than $10.
In the trun round betting before the river is it still $10 and do I have to bet 10 or nothing or can I bet less.
in the river round betting before you reveal the cards what are the betting restrections now. are there any or are you capped at $10 still and what does that mean.

thank you to all who respond

Hi ,

Maybe you should read a book?

Anyway, Fix limit (and I'm no expert) $5/$10.
the small blind is usually $2.5 and the big blind is $5.
PF and on the flop bets are fixed $5. You can always raise (by $5) when its your turn you can always raise (unless the betting is capped)
On the turn and river the bets are fixed $10

HTH

Danny

btw, would love to sit and play with you $5/$10 FL :)

This is correct.

Just in case you are not sure on the terminology though - 'capped' means the number of raises allowed per betting round has been reached.

Pre-flop, the big blind is already out there for $5 and the maximum number of times it can be raised is 3. Essentially this means that the biggest amount the big blind would have to pay to call when it comes back round to him is $15 more - $5 blind plus 3x$5 raises.

On the flop, the first $5 that goes in is the initial bet and again this can be raised 3 times max.

On the turn, the first $10 that goes in is the initial bet and again this can be raised 3 times max.

On the river, in many casinos, there is no limit on the number of times that a bet/raise can be raised.

And finally just for clarity, the bet/raise size pre-flop and on the flop must be $5 and on the turn/river must be $10. It does not mean that you can bet anything up to $5 or anything up to $10 (that is a spread limit game........)

and no, you can never reraise yourself if nobody has raised after you.

So if i make it 2 bucks, and everyone calls, I can't say "hold on dont deal the flop, put in another 2 more!"

I see I find getting perticular about it is like being in the army all over again. There is a certain kind of language you use that no one else understands.

like we had better max out or pt or the cq is likely to put us on kp. or worse send us to the lt who will make us clean the ta-50 at the dx.

see what i mean complete gibberish unless you are military.

I am picking it up but you would be suprised at the little things you don't know until someone just comes out and tells you what it means.

although I find with enough background you work out most of them. still I am really not ready to sit down to a $50-$100 hand need to work it some first. get some of the finer dynamixs down. which is what you meant. thanks for all your responces hopefully I will be talking to you regularly in some other part of the forum.

Being from Indiana myself, I've seen a 'Tipton' win over a set in '6-card peek.' A 'Tipton' is three pair, and beats a set. Go figure… It's named after the town named Tipton. Lovely farm-reared girls there. I'm not being nasty, I jus' thot they wur purty.
