Betting question on Nolimit holdem

Hi folks, 1st time here, my friends and I have a disagreement on betting, example in a cash game no limit holdem, SB .25 & BB .50 to call you need to put out .50, if I raise it has to be the amount of the BB ( thats my thinking) so if I raise, the min would be at least a $1.00 or more, I cant say raise and make it .75 all day, thats just .25 over the big blind, so am I right so far
part 2 now, can I raise say to $1.30, or does it have to be in increments of .50

1. You're right. Min raise is atleast the size of the BB.
2. Nahhh.. as long as the bet size is atleast the bb, it can be any amount. A buck, ten, a buck and a cent, whatever.

Also, raises after the flop and reraises both before and after the flop must be atleast in the amount of the raise/bet on the table. I'll give you an example for your NL .25/.50 cent game.

Before the flop the player first to act raises to 1.25, this is a raise of .75 from .50 to 1.25. If a player opts to reraise, he must raise atleast .75 more to 2.00. He can raise to anything over this amount, but He cannot raise just .50 in this situation.

Another quick one. The preflop action concludes with a pot of 2.00. The first player to act bets 1.00. Your raise must be atleast 1.00, making it 2.00 to go, the raise cannot be .50.

thanks, now that was something I wasnt sure of, so just to make sure I understand, lets say blinds are .25 and .50 if someone makes it $2 all day, if I re-raise I need to make it $4 all day

No! The raise was $1.50. So the next raise has to be equal to that amount. Therefore, the minimum raise is to $3.50. ($2 + $1.50 raise)

And it doesn't have to be all day. It's just for that betting round.

Ok, newbie here... now im confused. I have never understood the whole min betting in no-limit.

But if im right the min bet you can make is the size of BB, in ALL rounds?

SO in that example, A bets 1.5 making it 2... but how can B just raise 1.5? isnt the min bet for B 3 then? making it 5?

how can he bet the same amount as A? shouldnt the min be double of the last bet?

I think most new player get confused between limit and no-limit when discussing raises.

(For purposes of this discussion, we'll ignore short-stack all-ins for a little bit)

In limit games, the bet/raise sizes are fixed, and are the size of the BB pre- and post-flop, and 2X the BB turn and river.

In no-limit games, upper bound of a raise is only limited by the amount of money you have in front of you. However, the minimum raise is always the amount of the raise you're facing, not the amount of the bet.

So, in Dave's example, B is only facing a raise of $1.50 ($0.50 --> $2.00), so he's allowed to raise another $1.50 with his 76offsuit (if he so desires), or any amount above that up to his stack.

C wants to raise, but can't put in a full raise, so he can only go to the end of his stack (unlike home games, no reaching in your pocket for more--table stakes).

so in that example we could bet over each other by the minimum 1.5 till one of us would be all in right? (of course this wouldnt happen in no-limit, but for the sake of understanding the minimum bet)
