Biggest pot you've seen in .50/$1?
I kid you not I just saw a pot go down for $31. Everyone just kept raising & re-raising. The showdown wound up between 2 people. One guy wound up with a pair of 10s, the other got a gut-shot straight on the river. Hopefully a few hours on this table will prove to be profitable. Amazing.

It should be very profitable if people keep chasing gut-shot straights to the river. The other guy probably though he had top pair and could take it to the river. It was probably a good play if it wasn't for the dumbass.
Like you've said, these guys end up losing it all in the long run. The problem is you have those days where they get lucky and you end up losing a bit. It's a good thing really though. It usually gets them loose and feeling good.

Well I stuck around for about 90 minutes. I wound up winning about 30 bucks in that time. I didn't have squat to play for the first 45 minutes, then got A/K OS on the button. Raised, bunch of callers. Flop is 2 rags and a K. So I have top pair at this point, I simply called because there were 2 spades on the board. At this point there are 3 of us left in the pot. Next card is As. So I've got A/K paired up. But, there are 3 spades on the board. I call their raises, I even re-raise because I just don't think they have spades & also because I just don't have the heart to lay down top 2 pair. Next card, 9s. So, 4 spades on the board. Here come the bets. Lucky for me I have the Ks so I've got the nut flush. Raising continues and gets capped again. I wind up winning raking in a $30 pot. I won the next hand with trip kings.
The other guy had a middle pair and the other guy had a flush, but with a middle card so he was more than happy to keep betting.

Sounds like fun. You deserved that hand. It's nice when you get the nut flush in the end. With any other king you'd of had to fold then. It's almost like you got beat by the draw, but got the pot anyway.
It's like payback for all the times those maniacs raise on rag off suits and make straights on the river or a back end flush.
I'm going to move up to those low limit tables once I figure out the legality of this in my area (Ontario). I'm cleaning house in the no limit play tables right now. It requires extraordinary patience so I think it's good for me. You don't get to use much theory/strategy though at those tables so it will be nice to see some of that at the pay tables.

With those 3 spades on the board I was cursing to myself "so help me if I lose this f... pot!" When that last spade fell and I had the Ks I felt vindicated for some of the garbage flushes I'd succumbed to.

Was this a limit or NL table?
I've actually seen/won higher pots on UB .25/.10 NL Holdem tables.
One for $42 and one $40, both came down to a all-in showdowns.
I don't play higher that .25/.50 NL at this point online, so can't comment on .50/1.00.

This was a limit table! That's why I was so stunned to see the first hand go for $31 and then my hand went for just under that. I think there was a hand later on that went for $35 plus. It was unreal, you would have laughed seeing some of the cards these guys were raising and calling raises with. I just wish I'd gotten a few more hands to play.

:D
That's makes more sense then.
I thought $30 would be nothing unusual for a .50/$1 NL table.
Thanks for the clarification.

$30 pot
i took down a $30.00 pot last night at a .50/1.00. I started with pocket rockets & an ace hit the flop. On the turn the flush draw hit and i just knew I was gonna lose to a flush but I nearly jumped out of my seat when a second 8 hit on the river giving me a full house aces high. i raised pre-flop and jammed it all the way to the river. There was still like 4 others with me on the river. I tried 1.00/2.00 once and never saw a pot over $30.00 and most were $10.00-$15.00.

LOL it continues. I just took down a $32 pot. I had pocket queens on the button. A ton of callers before the flop, but I raised anyhow. Flop is Q/5/9 rainbow. I go ahead & raise it, caps out at $2 because nobody re-raises me. Turn is more garbage, betting ensues and I raising is capped. River is a 5, I've got the boat. I nobody re-raised me though so I didn't know what kind of cards these other people still in the pot had. My guess was the other guy had high overcards or maybe pocket Kings.

I imagine the 1/2 games have a much more skillful player base. People probably start to get strategic and actually think it out there. You probably get to play more hands in the long run on higher limit games since people aren't so stupid. I'm just speculating, but it makes sense. You could probably start to play some marginal hands and not just pocket aces or big slick.
