Blind Increases
Are the increases in the blinds a regular part of the game, or do some games do it while others don't. Also, based on what I've read it seems the blinds are arbitrary as to the amount and the frequency. I assume this is left up to the host/moderator of the game and is established prior to the first deal. Thanks

Hiya Tallstack. That's a good question. You'll almost exclusively see blind increases happen in tournament play. A cash or "ring" game generally will not increase the blinds.
The blind structure can pretty much be anything that the host wants to make it. 1/2, 2/4, 1.50/3.00, 25/50. You'll find that in most casinos or card rooms that the blind structure generally starts at 25/25 or 25/50 and moves up from there. The tourney I played in today was a ten person single table tourney at Foxwoods. Each player had 1000 in chips and the starting blinds were 25/25. Every 15 minutes they went up like this:
25/25
25/50
50/100
100/200
150/200
etc.
Some tourneys have the blinds go up ever 15, 20, 30 or 60 minutes. Larger tourneys like the WSOP I think go up every two or three hours.
