Switching from LiveJournal to THPblogThis is my first entry on here and I decided to switch from LiveJournal because clearly this is the better option. The following is my latest post (April 15th) from LJ.
March Stats are Incomplete... ...due to some awful computer difficulties. With that being said, I'll update everything I can to the best of my knowledge. Lately online I've been in a slump; a pretty bad one. My aces are being cracked, my draws are not connecting, and the bad beat fairy seems to be floating above me. Gid is having the same problems, but probably worse than mine. However, it hasn't been ALL bad. A cuple weeks ago I FT'd the 15k GTD and came 6th for around $800 which was nice (though later it didn't look like anything compared to the 7k David won two days later, winning the 18k). Also a friend on THP gave me PokerOffice (which is usually $70) for free, and I've been using and enjoying that lately. That's my past online month in a nutshell but I would like to talk about my evening yesterday. Last night, my dad and I went to an underground casino in Missusauga (sp?). It was about a thirty minute drive, but we were going up there to play a $60 freezeout and some cash afterwards. So we get to the entrance and it looks really cliched: the typical underground casino that you might see in movies. You have to ring a doorbell so that the people upstairs look and you and see you're not a cop or theif. They then unlock the door, and you travel up a staircase to the main poker room. Inside looks pretty nice. There's some nice TVs on the walls, some nice tables, chips, etc... Unfortunately we got there a bit early so we had to wait for about 45 minutes until we got to play. I was seated at table 2, my dad at table 4. We all started with 3,000 chips and the blinds were 25/50 to begin. For the first orbit, I basically just watched all the other players to see what the game would be like. I pegged two guys as LAG, some chick as TAG, some other guy as an ATM etc. I, of course, am seen as the nitty TAG who is only gonna raise with AA suited, so I use that to my advantage to steal some blinds and pots early on. A little later, I look at 68s on the button after two limps before me. I limp too and we see four players to the flop. Flop comes Js 4s 7d. Action: Check, small bet, I call, and the other two players fold. Turn: 8h. He bets about 1/3 pot and I raise him about 2.5x his amount. He relluctantly calls. River: 6d. Okay...I didn't hit my flush but I'm almost certainly winning with two pair. He checks, I bet 1/2 pot, he calls, shows a poorly played AJ and sighs. Some guy at the table made a comment like "wow, runner runner.." but I didn't care because I had chips in front of me :). I win and lose a few more hands, and about twenty-five minutes later my stack is sitting at around 4k. I look at ATo in the SB, and the CO raises 5xBB. This particular player was one of the more agressive people at the table. I call so we see a flop. Flop: Ad Js Qh. At the time, I really didn't mind the flop. I planned to check raise him as he could have practically any two cards at this point. I check, he makes a big bet, and I push. He thinks about it for about three minutes (therefore I thought I had him beat) but eventually calls with AJo and I don't improve. So I ended up coming in like..28th out out 40. Whatever - I go look for a cash game. Unfortunately though, the smallest game there is 2/5nl. I've never played such a high no limit game before but I figure I'll give it a shot. I buyin with the rest of my money ($260) and we get a game going. Very first hand I flop TPGK w/ QKo and take down an $80 pot. Pretty nice start to the game. So for the first hour, I'm moderately tight, stealing some pots here and there, and I even showed an A high bluff once. So I'm sitting with about $280, and see 88 in EP. Bump it up to $20, four callers. Josh (in his mind:) please flop a set, please flop a set! Flop: 4d 8c Ts YES!! I check, my dad's friend Ray bets $60 (he had about $200 before the bet), the players behind him fold, and then my brilliant acting comes into play. I take a look at my hole cards, take a look at Ray, and push to put him all in. He immediately calls with QTo and is pained to see my set. I take down the pot and have a nice healthy stack of about $400 in front of me. "Nice hand, kid." Some Italian guy at the table says. Needless to say, I'm very pleased. I begin to loosen up a bit which leads to this hand: UTG limps, and I look down at KK. Raise it up to $25, and the guy after me pushes for about $70 more. Limper folds and I obviously call. He shows AJo and unfortunately hit an A on the flop. It shook me up a bit but no big deal - it happens. My dad is then knocked out of the tourny and decides to sit at my table with $200. After about an hour and a half of play, his stack is $450, mine is around $330, and he motions to me that we have to leave after one more orbit. On my very last hand, I see 99 in the SB. There are three limpers, and I decide to bump it to $30. A little questionable I know, but I thought my post flop play against familliar players could help me win the hand. There are two callers. Flop: 4s Qc 5d I think I'm ahead and bet $100. The first guy calls (f*ck - and it also only left him with $30 left) and the next guy folds. Turn: 2h I put him all in for $30, he calls; shows KTc..... f*cking club on the river. I leave, say gg, and cash out my remaining chips. All in all, it was a fun night, and I'll probably be going back there again. Full Tilt Alias: JTax3
