AC Last Night

Permanent Linkby Sean_in_NJ on Sun Sep 02, 2007 4:19 pm GMT

Made the drive to Borgata again yesterday. Long list for 10/20 and open-seating at 5/10, so I sat in the smaller game. One icky hand of note.

9d Tc in the BB. A few limpers, so I get to check my option. Flop comes Jd 8d 7h (yay!). I bet, get raised UTG, everyone folds, I call. Turn is a second heart, I check, UTG bets, I raise, he 3-bets, I make it 4, he calls. River is a third heart. I bet, he raises, I call. He shows 9h Th for the same flopped straight, runner-runner flush.

A few hands later, I got a small measure of revenge. I'm holding the 9h Th, I floated villain on the flop with air, check-raised him on the turn with air and he folded to my river bet. It felt good showing it to him.

Anyway, +$588 last night. I'm not just running good, I'm running grooooooovy. Vegas next weekend!

I'll fill in context if necessary. Most of these speak for themselves.

I would play LAG against this type of player. I would only play those hands that were within the top 15 starting hands and I am going to play them hard and fast.

I think DC was also right about fold equality with an all-in move.

On beating players at $10NL:
This is why it is more important to play the people then the cards delt to you. You have to learn what hands bad players will raise or call with. Usually these micro players seldom vary betting styles.

I never like giving a free card. Sometimes it does cost me but most times not.

One reason I like limit is because it does make playing a drawing hand less costly. Not saying I play pot odds in limit because if you di then you would play any two cards most of the time.

And the granddaddy of them all...

The...

Vegas Recap - Sunday, 4/22

Permanent Linkby Sean_in_NJ on Sat Apr 28, 2007 11:01 am GMT

Wow, I'm tired. Really tired. I order breakfast from room service, and shower and pack while I'm waiting for the food to arrive. I eat, check-out and leave my bags with the handlers at the taxi stand. It's roughly 10am at this point. Three hours left to make good.

Stop #13: $3/$6 FL (Mirage)

It's the only limit game in the room at that time, so I take a seat with $200. Two of the guys from the day before are in this game too. Neither concern me much, although I give them a little more respect than the others.

KK in MP, I raise and get 3 or 4 callers, including the blinds. The flop comes A-high, a bet and raise before me and I toss it in the muck.

AQo UTG, I raise and once again get a bevy of callers. I continuation bet the small flop, get raised and fold after whiffing the turn.

Oddly, I find this turn of events quite heartening. The hands being shown down as winners are real garbage and the table is very passive preflop, so I decide to splash around a lot...

Vegas Recap - Saturday, 4/21

Once again, I get an early jump on the day. After showering, I skip breakfast and head straight for the games.

Stop #9: $3/$6 FL (Mirage)

Nothing else is going yet, so I put my name on the $10/$20 list and buy-in for $150. Half the room is roped off for an invitational tournament that morning, so I'm not too confident anything will be starting any time soon. My single big hand was picking up AA in the BB, with a raise UTG and a call from the SB. I merely call to stay under the radar. The flop is J-high, the SB checks and I bet. The UTG raiser folds, SB raises and I call. He leads the brick turn, and I raise. He calls, check-calls the river with his KK, and I take a nice-sized pot.

Shortly thereafter, they announce "Attention players: world champion Jamie Gold is in the room." We all turn around and let out a collective "HEEEEY!" which brings him over to shake hands with all of us. He came across as a much nicer guy than anything I'd seen from him during the main...
