Poker and HurricaneHam: Adventures in Mediocrity

We are certainly running excellent. PT has me at 2bb/100, which hey, is still a profit, but meh. Had a real shitter of a day two days ago, ending the month on a real crappy note, down over 5BI that day alone. A tad bit spewy, but really the big hands I lost were three sets vs straights, and one monster 3BI pot where my aces lost to a set. More or less summed up the day save maybe a buyin either way of picking off pots.

We were both way deep and there was a 50BB stack in the pot as well, so tons of money out there and I had a hard time getting away from it. Was SB, 50BB raised, villain called, I 3bet too small in retrospect, but with how deep we were he's got odds to set mine unless I raise huge and blow him out of the water, which I also don't want to do. Flop was like 456 with two hearts I think. Certainly not a flop you love with aces, but given there's a 3bet preflop, I'd say 44 55 and 66 are all I really need to worry about, so I lead for 2/3 or so, shorty calls, and when villain raises, he could have about a billion other hands, the vast majority of which I crush, so I shipped. I could've 3bet, but that leaves me sad when he 4bets TT+ or something and I maybe find a fold and see that he beats the short stack's whiffed broadway cards or something. If he calls I'm OOP the rest of the hand which sucks, but I'm probably shipping the turn anyway save MAYBE a heart or a 3 or 7. Still, I figure the flop is the best time to get money from smaller overpairs. Is my reasoning sound here? In any event he snaps me off with 66 and I'm cooked, and shorty shows AcJc. Hehe. Reload!

Yesterday was sort of the same, except more frustrating because every time I got to a table, within 5 minutes it would go tighty mctighterson. I must've played about 40 different tables because I had to kept switching. I'd check the lobby and see the tables I were at were average pot $2, average pot $4, average pot $1. Jopke. Though 4 hands in I flopped a set and stacked up and was up almost 4 buyins after the morning sessions first 500 hands. Went totally to the shitter after that and I couldn't hold vs. a shortstack to save my life. Had another set vs. a straight, then another monstrous pot, this time against aces where I flopped a set, turned a boat, and he re-boated the river. That pot was almost 3 buyins as well, and sucked quite hard. I never thought making a full house would actually hurt my chances, but man, with 55 and flop of 753 and a guy shipping it in, you don't expect to lose until the board runs out sevens and you cry. I still don't tilt which is awesome, though I was definitely a little deflated after that because it was later on in the session as I was wrapping up and left a sour taste in my mouth. I know I know it's all one long continuous session blah blah, it still feels crappier when you end the day on a bad note than on a good one, even though it makes little difference the next day.

So after all that, much like last week, the good start at the beginning of the week is leaving very much to be desired again at this juncture, except now I've got another 8000 hands and still hovering around the same profit. Garph is looking meh, but just gotta keep grinding it out. Honestly, while 20k hands seems like a lot, I think of all the hands I had in the past few days that went the wrong way, and really it's like...10. That's nothing. Just keep playing the way I'm playing in those types of situations and things will even out...I hope. I know I'm not a great player, but I know I'm solid enough to be beating these limits at a better clip than I am. I hardly feel like I'm being outplayed, just had a buncha hands go bad recently.

Confidence is fine, still enjoying the grind, and oh man, pandora.com is glorious. Sadly I don't think it works outside the US, but basically you plug in a band you like, it plays that band and tons of other music similar to that band, like your own personal radio station. I rocked out for like 5 hours straight on this thing after typing in Alice in Chains and just revelled in my bread and butter 90's grunge rock music. So good. It's like an awesome playlist you made, but you don't know what song is coming next. So exciting! 2k hands more today maybe and I can reach 20k for two weeks, keeping me on pace for 40k in a month which I likes. Garphs and things to come maybe.

I've got deez nuts
