Back in the saddle at a live game

As I gently ease myself back in to playing poker, much like slowing lowering myself in to a scalding hot tub; I decided to head out to my favorite 1/2 NL Texas-1/2 PL Omaha (dealer’s choice between those two) game last night.

For the most part I was happy with my performance. It started out with a relatively small $80 buy-in around 9:00pm. The place is now doing a high hand pot I learned. If a pot exceeds $10, $1 of it goes in to a pot. The pot is paid every hour to the person who during the last 60 minutes had the highest hand with a full house or better. I’ve seen this at casinos so it didn’t bother me. But it brought out more Omaha games than Texas. This was especially true as the minutes ticked down and the hour deadline approached.

After about four hours I my stack was sitting at about $220 or a $140 net. Not bad since I hadn’t been to a live game in a long time. I didn’t notice as much ADD as I experienced playing on-line the other day. However, at a live game you have ...

Did I develop poker ADD?

After a near historic up due to the games I was playing and how often I was winning, I flamed out in spectacular fashion. Losing on 80/20 and 90/10 type hands every time.

Due to a lot of real life issues, chief among them being the birth of my son, I stopped playing poker. No more trips to A.C. No local tournaments. No local weekly game. My friend has my personally hand made poker table. But more importantly, no online gaming.

In fact, before I took a break I was about 75% done in creating a new rule book. Complete with pictures, definitions and situational answers to common questions. A work of art. Abandoned...

Fast forward 3-4 months later and due to things settling down I find myself with an hour or so of free time at night now. Mostly due to the baby going to bed at 7:30pm and sleeping through the night. Last week I got the itch...

I put $150 in to my FT account and decided to go slow playing a SnG or two. What I discovered about myself was slightly unnerving. I think I...

I give up. I'm done for a week to lick my wounds.

Maybe my internal barometer that has been so right for so long has finally gone screwy. I don't know how else to put it as I'm just not seeing things. But on top of it, I can’t win a 80/20 or greater to save my life.

This f*cked on fifth street by fulltiltpoker.com needs to stop. Seriously what the hell... I had just had a flush riverd on me with A4h while I sat with KK and 2:1 chip lead. Bet 4x the BB and got called. Trips on the flop with K hit and went all-in as it was heads up. The guy called. Rivered the flush… grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Fifth street again on the following hand... WTF. I was LB. Posting the BB leaves me with 540 which at this point is pretty much one BB. It was heads up with everyone else folding. Figured I'd take my shot and hope for a coinflip. 60/40 on the flop. 90/10 on the flop... LOSER on the river… I give up...

Ouch...

I don’t even know what to say. I’ve been getting WRECKED in tournaments lately. I had a business trip that took me a way from playing for about a week. But once I got back I’ve been getting beat on inside straight draws, AA cracked to everything, KK in EP called by J9suited in LP who called my all-in with another caller before him, only to his JJ pre-flop and sink us both. All of us with the same size stack. The other guy had QQ btw. Runner, runner, runner, runner flush draws just because some donk had an A4o his and likes to play Ace fairy tail.

I am shocked… hurt… dismayed and frustrated and these losses. But in a masochistic way I am LOVING it too. Because hey, after all “that’s poker” right? Someone has to play 72o and hit a full house on the flop to crack your AA or that itty bitty percentage wouldn’t exist. I just wonder who I pissed off upstairs to make ME that person.

My bankroll is down to $367.34. I’m just in shock at this point. But still I can’t s...
