TOURNAMENT MADDDDDDDDDDNESSSRight, so basically this is/was my stand point on tournament poker.
The variance is too shitty and they were not as +ev for me as the cash games. I could put in more hours on those tables and see better results. Tourney poker is a donk fest anyway, players donking themselves into the right move like donks. All this is true however I have found something. This something is very special, very special indeed. Pot Limit Omaha8 tourny styleeee!! Yeah, that's right, perhaps one of the best games and formats I have ever played. If you have read my previous posts you will see I have been casually getting more and more into these. Today I bubbled in one MTT and finished 18th in another. I have had a lot of money place finishes so far including 2 final tables. I hit up the PLO8 SNG's and have cashed/won the majority of those. Have I finally found my niche in poker? For so long now I have been following different avenues in poker. I think I have tried just about everything for a suitable period of time except stud. Nothing has given me as much excitement as Omaha has. It has given me a lot of confidence too. I was down a hell of a lot at the HUNL and managed to pull out a big win today. I also finished on the bubble in a NLH mtt. Not good you might say, but I played fine up un til the end where I over commited myself to a guy who flopped a set and it was downhill from there. I think I am going to kick the HU cash games into touch. The rake is just f*cking terrible. So far I have raked perhaps around 600-700 at these games alone and I have only been playing them for about a week or two. It's crazy and it's too much. I think I am ok at it, however even I have started to tilt a little when you constantly get outdraw by 94o because he had a pair on the flop. If I have taken one key point from this game though it will be that I can now adapt to almost any player and play the most profitable way against them, a key tool in HU poker of course. I was never really doing this before. I would pretty much be "Here I am, this is how I play, deal with it" That is fine and if you are comfortable then great, but it's not always the most profitable way of thinking. This is of course said in books and what not, but these little things are the bits of advice I don't seem to take in for a while. I will eventually, just not straight away. I also gave shorthanded PLO8 cash a go. I think the word you are looking for is Sick! Exactly what I am going to do now I am not too sure. I have run my party bankroll up a decent amount thanks to omaha. I think I will try playing a lot more of these omaha tournaments and see if I am good and not just lucky. Still seeking my big PLO8 MTT win. As for cash games, I don't know. I have been about cash games for the last 2 years and I cannot see me ditching them completley. I just am not too sure exactly what cash games I am going to play. Fixed Limit Hold'em Full handed Fixed Limit Hold'em Short handed No Limit Holdem Full handed No Limit Holdem Short handed No limit Holdem Heads Up Pot Limit Omaha 8/b Pot Limit Omaha 8/b Short handed Fixed Limit Omaha 8/b Fixed Limit Omaha 8/b Short handed That's the list of what I will play in the future. I will have to get my head around it and have a proper think. In other news, I busted the great Snoogins in an Omaha sng. Oh why do you think your JJ is so good there against 4 players? Nevermind. I know a few read this, so please give comments on the cash games I have listed with what you play, what it's like etc. 2 Comments Viewed 2 times
