Weekly rundown by Hurricane Ham on Sun Apr 26, 2009 8:38 am GMT
A very solid week, I'm happy to report. No major blowups, steady grinding, clear head. And I won. Sweet. Winning stuff is nice. Way better than losing.
Took Saturday off of "work" as it were to play some golf and have a few beers and watch the Red Sox game, so I didn't reach 10k hands. 9369 is the final tally, with 26.73 total hours at the tables. Good hour-age. Graph time, since I'm a visual learner.
Spiking up, while nice to start, sort of left something to be desired by week's end since I never actually got back above where I was after day 2. However, that's completely unrealistic as I was like 20+ptbb/100, heh. I still likes it. It's above that line at the bottom, and in the end that's what's important. Time to repeat for week 2.
Nothing really jumping out at me yet as far as leaks. I know I played like a dick a few days ago and tried to do waaaaaaaaaaay too much, and I suspect I'm... [ Continued ]
Getting to grips with live poker by jimmer on Sat Apr 25, 2009 4:19 pm GMT
I hit the casino again on Wednesday night. This time I finished work at a reasonable hour and managed to get the to poker room around 9.15pm. There was a £50 re-buy taking place and the cash tables were not open. I now realise the cash tables only open once the dealers have been released from tourney duty. As it was a re-buy, less players had been knocked out and I guessed I’d have to wait a lot longer. Therefore I put my name on the waiting list and went and sat down in the bar to watch the end of the Chelsea – Everton game.
Once this finished I decided to watch the PL £1-£2 HE & Omaha (alternates every rotation) table. There was a heated discussion between a few smokers about when they should go for cigarette breaks. Apparently, there were two players already outside having a break when another player gets up to go. A fourth player starts moaning because he had been waiting to leave for a break, but felt he should wait until one of the other players got back first. The othe... [ Continued ]
Righto, update! by Hurricane Ham on Thu Apr 23, 2009 8:26 am GMT
So far so good at NL50. Ran pretty hot the first two days, so the few were just piddling around, losing it back a bit, running it back up. Off the top of my head, I can say I've truly botched maybe 10 hands, like I look back over the HH on PT and vomit, with a whole basket full of minor botches I'm sure. So far I'm running 3.21ptbb/100 over the first 6600 hands which is pretty respectacle I suppose for having not played NL cash regularly for almost 3 years. Yeah, it's NL50, big whoop right Ham? Well shaddap this is a good confidence booster.
Aces are of course the mondo winner, 33 times with 100% success. Natch I just jinxed it by doing that, but that's a rather staggering number. That means over the next 67, I'm going to lose 20 times :(. More of the usual suspects at the top, queens, jacks, then AKs, then ducks! Love those sets. 63s is 7th on the list, followed closely by 64s which makes me happy because I derive a sick joy from winning with garbage hands. Biggest loser... [ Continued ]
En El Fiftee by Hurricane Ham on Sat Apr 18, 2009 9:09 am GMT
After a brief polling of the IRC gang, in which I got two responses from the three choices given I mentioned yesterday, both said grind NL50, so here's I am. Dumbass me didn't save whatever confirmation e-mail I got from pokertracker way back when, so I redownloaded but got version 3 this time which is sexier I think. Suppose I'll buy it eventually, since I forgot that I sure likes it. Then got meself a cheapo (free) hud, and 6 tabled it up for a shade over 1000 hands yesterday. About 400 hands/hour 6 tabling, so 1500 a day is a fairly reasonable goal, and 2000 is well within reach as well. This is good. No major foulups, only one stackage my way where a guy called my flop shove with A8 vs my AK on K82. Mostly marveling at how much of a rock garden NL50 seems to be now. Could be the times I'm playing as well, but wow, lots of VPIPs in the single digits floating around, so plenty of pot stealing and raising with garbage and all that. It's fun limping UTG with 56s! I missed that... [ Continued ]
Robusto! by Hurricane Ham on Fri Apr 17, 2009 8:28 am GMT
That's right folks, Fulltilt account has 7.60 left after my decision to have a few more goes with superturbos. Long story short, another ~500 or so in 2 days without even batting an eyelash. Scaled back to 6 tables which was so much easier after the 12-16 tabling nonsense of the double or nothings. I'm not sure if it's indifference or some poker zen thing, but I figured I'd care a heck of a lot more. I do care about the losing, it's bothering me, but not so much the monetary side of things. I don't quite get it. Comfortable I suppose? In hindsight the only mistake I see is not moving back down to the 28s nearly fast enough to recoup myself in the mid thousands. That and I continued with the 15s when I was well below 30 buyins, mostly because busting my roll isn't the end of the world, far from it. I've played long enough that I'd like to stay at stakes that are somewhat meaningful to me, and as much as I'd love to keep dropping down and down and down until I'm grinding the 2 dollar...
