Ho Hum by Hurricane Ham on Thu May 07, 2009 9:44 am GMT
So the most recent fecal missile I've launched into the spinning blades of poker has been NL50 6max, and is leaving me with very little confidence. I'd like to think it's runbad, and to an extent it is: no matter how good you are, if you're not making hands and showing down strong stuff now and again, you're not going to win. However, with 25k hands+ now, I'm beating Nl50 for .54BB/100, and that's just pathetic. I understand that 100k hand downswings are part of the game, but I really don't think this is a downswing so much as it is me just not playing well enough to be able to beat micro stakes. I took the day off two days ago for cinco de mayo to drink and be merry, feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the tables yesterday. Like 50 hands in, I'm already down a buyin and hadn't even shown down a hand yet. Raise, miss, cbet, fold to resistance. Raise, miss, two barrel, fold to resistance. Raise, miss, checkfold on a dirty board. 3bet, miss, cbet, fold. Easy game.

Don't feel...

Since I forgot yesterday.

So that last day was basically from between 14323 and 14974 on...yeah. That last big drop was the aces hand I posted. Feck!

Yesterday again the tables turned unbelievably tight, and I made almost no headway. Well, I say that, except that I lost 3 more buyins, so really I made reverse headway. I got 3bet an unreal amount of the time, at least 25%, and it was tilting as hell. Tightened up, still got 3bet, still didn't connect with any flops, and most attempts to play back and make a stand were met with pushes. Doh. One of those days where it feels like you forgot how to play poker and you're just poking around in the dark hoping for something good to happen. My stats look awful at the moment, and it's very disheartening even though it's only 18.5k hands. Not going to sweat it too much, but things did become rather boring at the supertight tables yesterday, so I'm debating...

Poker and HurricaneHam: Adventures in Mediocrity by Hurricane Ham on Sat May 02, 2009 9:56 am GMT
We are certainly running excellent. PT has me at 2bb/100, which hey, is still a profit, but meh. Had a real shitter of a day two days ago, ending the month on a real crappy note, down over 5BI that day alone. A tad bit spewy, but really the big hands I lost were three sets vs straights, and one monster 3BI pot where my aces lost to a set. More or less summed up the day save maybe a buyin either way of picking off pots.

We were both way deep and there was a 50BB stack in the pot as well, so tons of money out there and I had a hard time getting away from it. Was SB, 50BB raised, villain called, I 3bet too small in retrospect, but with how deep we were he's got odds to set mine unless I raise huge and blow him out of the water, which I also don't want to do. Flop was like 456 with two hearts I think. Certainly not a flop you love with aces, but given there's a 3bet preflop, I'd say 44 55 and 66 are all I really need to worry about, so I lead for 2/3 or so, shorty calls, and when...

Getting my stack in the middle lots, sometimes goot, sometimes not so goot, but big pots are better as long as you've got a big hand. Got a little fancy a few times check/pushing with weak top pair and a turned frush draw or something like that and ran into sets, but thems the breaks. Few suckouts as well against me, but that hasn't happened yet so I'm alright with it. Was quite a swongy day but was not even down 2 buyins by the end. I need to stop playing 98s, I'm down 3 buyins with that hand alone. So sad, it's one of my favorites it's so pretty, but I'm a sucker for nice suited connectors and one gappers and on occasion, two gappers. 63s is my fifth most profitable hand. Nyuk nyuk nyuk.

Still gradually getting a feel for the flow of the game and understanding my image more in relation to the table. Back in the day I'd be confused as to why some person made what I had thought was a ballsy calldown, but now I see on one particular table I could be running a 35VPIP with 20% PFR...

The true reality of live poker hits in. by jimmer on Thu Apr 30, 2009 6:13 am GMT
Casino visit number 3 hit home the true realities of live poker.

I arrived at the casino at around 9.30pm and sat down straight away.

I left just after midnight £8 down having not seen a single hand all night.

(That is a small lie. I actually saw one flop. I get dealt 45 hearts on the cut off and limp. The flop is AJT, one guy bets, someone else calls, I fold.)

I’m happy with this result. I think a lot of players would have started playing weak hands just to get some action. I figure the cards will come next week, so I should just keep hold of my money and wait until then.

I got chatting to the guy sat two-to-my left. He was quite obviously a regular. He knew the names of the staff and most of the players. He was quite opinionated about most of the other player’s betting patterns. He regularly discussed the whole hand out loud. Comments like “You raised preflop, bet £4 on the flop and then checked the turn with J9 right?”

He seemed to know his poker, so we disc...
