NL cash games are where its at

Permanent Linkby Phil14312 on Wed Sep 13, 2006 8:20 pm GMT

So its taken a while, but my roommate, a solid NL player himself, finally convinced me to try some NL cash at the casino. Whoah boy. In 4 sessions I've upped my bankroll 50%. Its freakin awesome. All those things I've read are right, NL is where the money is at.

1st session:
$100 NL at Hollywood Park. Nothing too exciting here, I played pretty tight the whole time...was upp 200, lost it, rebought, cashed out up 50 bucks eventually. Notable hands:

I have 44 UTG, haven't played a hand in uber-long, I raise to $15, calling station on my left calls, not too bad asian dude calls. Flop: A 8 9...I lead for 35, calling station is all-in for 45, asain guy calls, I call. Turn: 9, I check, asian checks.
River: 4! I bet 50, asian guy folds...calling station had J8, so he pretty much deserved to be rivered.

Another hand, I have 99 in EP raise to 15, solid player on my left has me covered (I have ~$100 back) makes it 35 to go. I call. Flop is K 9 4, with 2 diamonds. I check and...

I haven't had the internet for a couple weeks, so sorry for the no updatage. But, I have had plenty of time to hone in on my NL live cash games. Of which I've done pretty well. Updates to come of all that progress, including a quick weekend to Vegas.

10K 3BB/100

I'm back home in the dirty (jersey) and so I've got to playing a few thousand more hands in the last few days. My PT stats have me beating the game for 3 BB/100 at 2/4 6-max, so I'm pretty stoked about that. I know its probably unsustainable over the long haul, but at least I know I can beat the game.

Not too much else knew, grinding it away, trying to get my bankroll up to play 8/16 and higher live.

No poker for a while

Its 2 AM and in 4 hours I'm leaving for Montana, stopping in Yellowstone/Grand Tetons then heading for Glacier to do some sweet backpacking. Won't be thinking about poker much but I can't complain. Good luck to all in the meantime.

7-Stud 8/b

Permanent Linkby Phil14312 on Thu Aug 03, 2006 12:42 pm GMT

I've had this huge paper to finish up this week for my independent study thats taken almost all of my time. I just dabbled in about an hour of 7-stud 8/b yesterday...scooped two massive pots. One pot I was a board lock for the low with a 3-7 straight and capped on 6th...looked like I was up against a flush and a bigger straight draw, but a lot of his outs were dead. So on 7th it was checked to me, I bet, and got one crying call and scopped that mother.

The other hand I ended up with like an A-2-3-4-6 low and capped 6th again with the best low and against two hands going high. Well I ended up taking the high with a pair of 6's and scooped, nice.
