That Poker ThingYes, I actually played Poker today. Won $50 in PLO, then promptly lost it back playing the 8-game mix. Was kinda surprised. Thought it would be more fun after being away for so long. But something has happened... it wasn't really all that entertaining. I get the feeling I will be withdrawing my money in 72 hours. But I guess I could always wait until the end of the month, play the turbo takedown, and maybe play a little bit if I'm bored on the side. Maybe I'll go play some no fold'em $3/$6 with the donkeys over the weekend. If I don't have a hundred other things to do.
I'm actually enjoying how busy I am with school. Lots of work to do, but it is a lot more satisfying than my undergraduate experience. Having fun being indoctrinated by a bunch of elitists in their ivory towers. Politics-wise, I think the election is over. McCain pretty much put the nails in his own coffin tonight by coming off like a complete jackass in the debate. It's Kennedy-Nixon all over again. Even... If I can't give it my all, I'm wasting the money, and I don't have time to play very often. So I'll figure something else out to do with the money. Maybe it's time to play some live games again now that I live in town...
Bleh, too much reading to do. 0 Comments Viewed 7 times No Poker to ReportI have not played any Poker since September 1, mostly because of school. I have had a ton of reading to do, and I'm still getting readjusted to the process of going to class, doing presentations, actually taking the time to read outside of class, etc.
I am enjoying being back so far, but it is a little overwhelming, and most of the other students I've met already have a good idea of what they want to study/specialize in; I do not. Guess I just have to give it time. I do not know how much Poker I'll have time to play. Without playing every day, I'm worried I could slip from my A-game. If I only log on occasionally, I may have to settle for lower stakes or playing tournies/SnG's instead. I want to start playing live again too when I get the chance, but again, grad school will probably demand a lot more of my time than undergrad did, especially if I want to do it right and set myself up for a decent job when I get out. I should probably withdraw a good chunk of my online roll... [ Continued ] 1 Comment Viewed 8 times Pot-Limit Obama, er, OmahaSorry, can't escape the convention continually on the TV.
Sessions have generally gone better, play-wise if not results-wise. Yesterday, I ended up losing two huge pots. In the first one, I got all my money in on the turn with a set 3-ways against one guy with two pair, and one guy with a flush draw, who hit his spade for $180 on the river. The really crappy part about that is if the first guy hadn't made a HORRIBLE call with top and bottom pair, the flush draw could never have made the overcall, and I would have taken it down on the turn. Gross. The second was more standard, as I got all-in with a wrap and flush draw against a set, but ended up drawing to one out (gutshot straight flush) when he filled on the turn. It was really gross, because the flop was J-5-3, and he had 3-bet from the big blind, so when he bet pot on the flop, I naturally assumed he was overplaying Aces and that my equity was a lot better than it was. So when the 3 came on the turn but I hit my flush on the... [ Continued ] 0 Comments Viewed 5 times Some Bad Luck, Bad Plays, but Good News$230 downswing the last two days. Bleh. I've made a botch of some plays, gotten unlucky, but I think I have some leaks to plug. Invariably, I start my sessions playing a tight, solid PLO game, but after awhile, I become a machine and start playing too loose out of position, and calling raises too liberally planning to play fit or fold Poker, which is a disaster. Still up for the month, still pretty solid on Stars, but I need to right my course. Could be worse. I reversed a $120 loss today to a $60 loss, so that's not terrible. Just need to keep working.
However, I will probably need to cut back on Poker, as I have like 28 books to read this semester for grad school, which starts next week. Don't want to get off track or blow anything off, because Poker just doesn't provide that kind of income for me (yet?). Good news is I'm successfully moved into my new place, and I'm pretty comfortable. Maybe my bad play has something to do with the fact that I'm still kinda tired. Oh...
