I'm not in the best of moods -see http://www.texasholdem-poker.com/forum/t25056/come-and-laugh-at-me for details.

I played three hours over the weekend in two sessions. In the session I won $18, in the second I lost $5.

In tonights session............oh my god. I messed up badly. $60 to be exact. I'm going to bed. I'm not happy.

21 hours play. 180 seater sng’s = -$26.40, 9,18 & 45 seater sng’s = $0, cash tables = +$85.70

In the wilderness

Haven't played for a few days and haven't had chance to update my blog.

I multi-tabled 3x $50NL cash tables a few nights ago. It was my first visit to these stakes for about two years. It all went ok. I made $31 profit.

However, I've also realised that my post flop game is struggling since coming back from holiday. On holiday I read Gus Hansen's-every hand revealed. As a lot of his analysis is based around big stack-short stack situations, and therefore the focus was less about post flop play as the situations were not as common. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with it. Of course it could be one big excuse and the real reason is based around my incompetence, which has suddenly come to light on the higher stakes. I will keep you informed.

Looking at the $50NL cash tables as a whole, although I only played 60-70 minutes, I noticed they suited my style of play a bit more. As a whole, the tables were slightly tighter than the $25NL and I actually found a few players who were...

Oh what a night

Two nights ago I won a decent amount in one session (for the stakes I am playing). In my last post I talked about the fact I lost quite a bit, but didn't care because I realised the game carried variance. I was in the right frame of mind and this was just one of those times when that happened.

However tonight I've turned the tables on it's head again and it's nothing to do with variance, it's down to my poker knowledge, skill and ability. Tonight I was on fire!

It all started when i was multi-tabling x4 tables. I noticed on one of the tables I was getting a lot of limpers preflop. I started concentrating a bit more on this table and realised there were some real loose players, so I abandoned the other three tables and concentrated on this one.

I did get a couple of lucky hands (my pocket 8's and pocket Q's both hit trips on the flop and the other players pushed all-in), however the my key income came from identifying a couple of weak players who i consistantly tore apart post...

The grand old duke of York

Wow, two blogs in one day and they couldn't contrast any more if i tried! However this time I'm smilling! (See last blog to understand why!)

I lost $25 tonight though nothing in particular. Had one reasonably big decision where some guy pushed all-in (with a bigger stack then me) on the river after I had bet the 2/3rd's of the pot on the flop and turn. I had AQ raised preflop, the flop was Q74 rainbow and the river and turn cards were 3 and 9. If he bet slightly smaller I would of probably called.

Apart from that I was just sensible poker from my point of view. I had pocket Aces and Kings a few times, but never got any real action and won some small pots. I also hit a full house on the flop, everyone checked to me, I bet small and they all folded. I could of let them attempt to catch a free card to improve their hand, and if I was up against one or two others i probably would of. However I thought there was enough players in the pot to at least get a call.

Oh well. What goes around...

Parachutes

I’m a little bit annoyed with myself for something that happened over the last three days. I’ve just come back from holiday and managed to play a 4 hour session. At one point I was $25 up, but eventually ended the session with $1 profit.

I have worked out that I can usually make around 3% of the table buy-in per hour. I was playing 4 tables ($25NL) so I was expecting to make $12 profit for that session.

I came away from this really unhappy. I don’t know if it was the jet-lag or the fact that I’d spent the two weeks reading Gus Hansen’s ‘Every hand revealed’, I just expected more.

The following day I played the same way for one hour and won a massive $27. This means for 5 hours play I’m now $28 up.

So why was I so annoyed? The fact that after my first 4-hour session, although I still made a profit, I was annoyed it wasn’t more. Yet I have been playing poker for long enough to know that the game includes massive variance. I know this and yet I still let i...
