one man's troubled, while another relaxesGot back to university on wednesday after a succesfull christmass break where i made about $10,000. Exam season here at uni, but nobody in my block seems to be revising. On wednesday night i played the £50 +£5 mtt on crypto and busted out in 17th for £120. Played well and didnt win a hand near the last 2 tables... i have come to realise that in the type of mtts i play - not deep stacked and short blind structure - making the last 2 tables regularly is a very good achievement because it enables me the opportunity to get all my money in the pot and try to have a decent stack on the final table. Nobody in the whole mtt ever really has a good stack in comparison to the blinds... so on the final two tables i went in with A8 vs K10 (he was shorter than me) he won.... then i went in with JJ vs AK and won it woohoo! then i went with A10 vs QJ and lost it, then 55 vs QK and lost that too which busted me out.... all of these hands i was in late position except for JJ and i was opening the pot. Anyway i win one of those hands after the JJ double thru i make the final and this seems to be the nature of most of the competitions i regularly play... goes something like this ...
Play good smallball type poker, only getting in large pots when u have a monster.... Realise u have made it down to the last 10 or 15% of the field Notice that you and everybody else only has about 10 X the blinds and even the chip leader only has about 20 - 25 X the BB. Realise you will have to go all in with a weak hand and HOPE for a call so u can get lucky and make the final....unless of course u manage to pick up a real hand like AA or KK If u manage to double through u have made the final WELL DONE! 6 hours of concentration and hard work followed by a lottery have given u a shot at real money now. On thursday i went to the casino to play the £50 triple chance mtt, i have a v good record in this mtt final tabling 3/5 times i played it last year and all of those finals was in the top 3 where we did a deal and i won over £1k. The mtt couldnt have started better.... so i thought. Very first hand i am in the BB with 5 8, few limpers to me and i check. Flop comes out 5d 8h 8d..... NICE..... i check and sum1 in late bets i just call another just calls, turn comes 7d nice card for me.... i check again the flop bettor raises about 2k now and we start with 5k, i decide to still just call, so that if he hasnt made his flush or straight yet he can fill on the river... river comes out A and i check to him again... he puts me all in and i call... he flips over A 8 for the full house. CHIPS!!!!!!! first hand lol and i rebuying allready. The very next orbit i am UTG with KK, i limp it in and half the table decides to copy me.. then thankfully the SB raises 10 X the BB to 1000, i re raise to 2000 and every1 folds. The SB goes all in. I had been the only one to rebuy so far and u only get 2 rebuys... as i was calling i said to the BB "this is so sick, u got AA havent u" and he nodded lol. i got no help on the board so i rebought for the final time and asked for a new deck too (the red cards were rigged). Luckily i got no real hands for the next few hours so i was able to accumulate chips without any real risk. Before i knew it there was only 20 people left. And the lottery began no1 had even 10 X the BB except for the chip leader who had 20X it. I lost A7 to KQ to a shorter stacked guy... then i won 99 vs AK to put me back in good shape... Then i had AsJs on the cut off when it was folded round to me now i been pushing some really shitty cards so this i shud really defo push with. But as i was loading up my chips i noticed the SB was doing the same, so i studied him for about 30 seconds.... AsJs isnt taht great when u know u are DEFINATELY getting called bby sum1 who been folding all night. In Hellmuth esque fashion i decided to just fold.. sure enough the SB went all in against the BB who instacalled with 77, SB flipped over AK and i was gratified. then i was moved table and made a move from sb to bb with 510 off suit he called with K10 and i spiked a 5 WOOHOO. now i had enough for the final table and it wasnt long b4 we were down to 10. On the final it was the same but every1 was alot tighter, only me and one other creative player were really taking advantage of this... every1 else seemed content to fold and try to move up the ladder. Im in BB with A6 and SB limps into me, this guy is the most tight and he been speaking to me all night about not having to raise all the time and that i would get caugt out sooner or later.. i push all in and he folds showing KsJs... i say "its a good fold, and i show himn the A" but really if he raised that i would instafold anything except for AA or KK, no lie. I wouldnt play anythign else against taht guy in that exact situation... I did some really nice steals in late position with total crap like Q6 K4 etc, i mean i had 60k and the BB was 20k so i not gonna wait around no matter many times the bb glares at me. Then the other guy doing the all in all in all in move got called and he flipped over 52 and was eliminated. A few more eliminations follwed when big hands collided and we were soon down to 5. and the antes went up to 15k30k.... chip leader had about 200k 2nd in chips had about 150k and me and 3 others had about 115k each...sum1 asked how much was left in the pool and there was about 5.5k to play for, we did a few more hands which were ALL IN .. fold fold fold fold. then sum1 suggested a deal of 1k each and the chip leaders take 1.2 and 1.3 each. This was a good deal all round as 5th normaly would get 500, 4th would get 700, 3rd would get 1k 2nd would get 1.2 and first about 2k. So the only big difference in terms of winning would be if u actually won u would have lost 700 by doing the deal - and if u wud have busted out earlier u gain quite alot. personally if i was the guy on 200k i wouldnt have done the deal, he can afford to be gung ho and just go all in every hand... if he lost a pot then he could offer the deal as he was the only guy opposing it.. Nice payday though and confidence booster too, hadnt finalled in a a few mtts and nice re assurance that my play is working 2 Comments Viewed 10 times

RE:one man's troubled, while another relaxesi think you posted the first hand wrong
5587A board, 58 would beat A8 Mike Matusow - "They asked me who would you want to be locked on a desert island with? And I said Daniel Negreanu 'cause we'd have a lot of fun"
Antonio Esfandiari - "Wow, do you know how gay that sounds?"
RE:one man's troubled, while another relaxesyea u are right it was 588
