No cards for me

Permanent Linkby mooseontheloose on Thu Aug 17, 2006 5:18 pm GMT

Sigh, so many bad calls paying people off :( Haven't had any luck at all today, played three tourneys.

Tourney #1 - $1 45-person SnG
Result: 30th, getting bad cards and my flush ran into a FH. Not much I could do here, just terrible luck.

Tourney #2 - $1 MTT, 800+ w/ top prize of $180
Result: 170th, 9 spots out of the money. I didn't really care about just getting in the money as really only the final table gives a nice profit. Anyway, I'm dealt QQ in MP, having been card dead most of the tourney I was down to about 4700 which was short-stacked. Blinds about to go up to 200/400, average stack around 8000. Anyway, one caller ahead of me and I push getting called by mid-stack with A9o (WOW) from the SB. Of course, he hits his A and I'm done.

Tourney #3 - $1 45-person SnG
Result: 25th, again due to people making dumb calls. This tourney was Exactly like the MTT, a bunch of call machines. That meant it was nearly impossible to steal any pots or blinds so I was essentially left to waiting for premium hands. They never came. Instead I got 99 UTG with 1300 left, blinds at 75/150 and average stack over 2600. I push, and get called by TWO people and they both turn over complete garbage! I had been playing solid and mostly tight, I had pushed UTG and had Not been making desperate plays yet I get called by: A6o and KJs. Guy hits his K (I still can't believe KJs called an All-in w/ one caller already) and I'm out.

Basically been a frustrating day. Most of the day I've been sitting with call machines and had absolutely no cards to play with - a pretty bad situation to be in. Through those 3 tournaments I had 3 PPs (QQ, 99, 33), no AKs, AKo once, AQs once (had to fold it), AJo once and that was it. Oh well, guess that's how it goes sometimes.

On the plus side, I should be able to double my BR with a deposit very soon as I have money coming my way. I feel my poker has improved playing these stakes but that it is very annoying to try and increase a BR at these levels. I really enjoy tournament play but the 45-person SnGs are just too random compared to the 9-person. Thus, once I get my BR over $100 I will be moving to the $5 SnGs and hopefully finally see some consistancy in my BR earnings.
