Same oldWell I haven't played much poker lately as I'm giving it a small rest while I just read forum/books and try and improve. Will pick it up again later this week when I get the money I'm waiting on.
But today I did play in a local freeroll, 250 people with top prize of $65. Too bad, as usual, it ends in a lame way. I started out really strong because I switched up my style a bit. The guys in this freeroll were pretty good but were hard to get reads on, some of them were pretty damn LAG. Usually against this type of player I get a little overaggressive when I hit something and I end up making a bad play. Today I played it pretty passively and it worked well early on. At the first break I was in the top 10, not too shabby. I had a few good hands early on where I made good moves that either paid off or resulted in a good steal. Was feeling very good, better than usual lately. Eventually though I stopped getting cards and the CL to my right was raising 3-5xBB every single hand so I was basically left waiting for monsters. After sitting around for quite a while, about 25 minutes getting very little and stealing a few times I'm dealt A9s in MP. Had 1 caller before me (quite loose, folds to big raises unless he has a monster) so I raise it up to 2400 (blinds 300/600) hoping to take the pot there as it was worth stealing. Instead, guy in SB makes the call for about 1/3 of his stack and flop comes T95 with 2 hearts. I push hoping to steal it there to have a coinflip with his draw; he flips over JTo (no hearts) and I don't improve. This time I was ACTUALLY behind when I pushed, but I still can't believe this guy called my raise with that trash! I had been out so long, I hadn't shown down a bluff at all and had a solid/tight image. This moron makes the call with JTo for a big chunk of his stack and I pay for his luck, as usual. He had me covered by like 100 chips. Still, I can't even be happy I was behind for once because it's sickening to watch people make bad calls and get paid off for it. It would've been different if I pushed preflop, he could've smelt weakness but with my play, there's NO reason to call with JTo. Anyway, least it was free and at least I felt I was playing good poker, finishing 45/250. Just hoping this little streak of bad luck clears up before/when I start playing the $5 SnGs. Later.
