New Day for the Nor-Cal Rounder by xDiamond_CutteRx on Sat Jun 02, 2007 5:00 pm GMT
Went for a late night casino trip last night to play some $4/$8 kill, which is probably the best game, investment wise at the casino. There is a $3 rake and $1 jackpot drop, the exact same as at the $3/$6, and with the pot sizes, that $4 drop usually amounts to less than 10%. By contrast, the NL game has a draconian $1 drop and $5 rake! Added with the fact that average pots are smaller at NL, and it's incredibly difficult to beat the rake, especially when three or more at the table are playing short.
Anyway, got off to a slow start, losing about $50 just being unable to connect with flops. Then, the guy on my left (a very loose player) goes on a rampage and wins like 3 kill pots in a row. On the 4th kill, I'm in the CO with [Td 9d]. 4 limp to me, I limp, the BB completes, and the kill takes the option to raise. All call, and we start a huge 7-way pot. The flop comes [Th 9h 8c], a flop that's both good and not good for me. All check to the guy to my immediate right, who bets.... [ Continued ]
Not in the Zone by xDiamond_CutteRx on Mon Jul 23, 2007 12:14 am GMT
Title says it all. Played a bad losing session of Limit last night online, and had a really bad session of live $1/$3 NL today, down about $350 in the last 24 hours total, meaning I'm now in the red for the month.
Something is happening at the tables where I lose my focus, and donk off a ton of chips in the process. Today, I didn't actually play that badly, but I got into some situations where I probably didn't need to lose all that much. Probably pushed a little too hard against some calling stations, and made a few calls OOP I really shouldn't have.
I feel very scatter-brained lately; I lose patience too easily at the tables, and for some reason it makes me furious when I see someone scoop a huge pot with terrible play; then I make a terrible play but I don't scoop the huge pot... it's really bad.
I'm taking some time off Poker. I need time to clear my head, plus I should really be preparing for my teaching job, which starts in a month.
If you're going to be serious about... [ Continued ]
I Haven't Gotten Worse... by xDiamond_CutteRx on Fri Jan 11, 2008 2:13 am GMT
...but I have really realized how much harder the online games have become. I used to be able to beat up 100NL, $2/$4 Limit Hold'em, and all the way up to $5/$10 Stud and the $33 SnG's. Now, it seems like almost everyone has gotten much, much better. I was listening to PokerRoad the other day, and Isaac Haxton was saying how $1/$2 NL online is probably tougher than the average $10/$20 NL live now... I'm hard pressed to agree with him at the moment. Several pros on the major blogging sites have said much the same thing, and Ryan Daut was mentioning how some of the big limit players have moved down to try and improve profits.
Factors behind this? Well, indirectly the UIGEA. Though it didn't make Poker illegal, it scared everyone, especially a good chunk of the fish, who were told by Neteller and Party that they weren't welcome anymore. Add on the fact that some banks have, for some reason, decided to comply with the toothless law (while many haven't, because it's nearly unenforcible),... [ Continued ]
Punch me in the face and call me a loser. by jimmer on Thu Dec 07, 2006 6:32 am GMT
I'm so embarrised, I've made a total fool of myself. My poker career is in ruins. Not because of my bankroll, but becasue of the way I'm playing. I have been playing poorly for the last few months, but no time in the last four years have thrown money away as I did last night.
It started off ok. I was playing (as usual) the 10 seater $0.20-$0.10 NLHE cash tables. On the second hand of the night I get dealt pocket Kings. I'm on the SB and get 6 limpers. I raise 8xBB and get one caller. The flop is 269rainbow. I bet the pot, they fold.
The next major hand was an hour later. The table had turned tight, so I decide to loosen up. Within two hands, I get dealt 76 offsuit. I limp and get called by the SB and BB. The flop comes K54 with one club . They both check. I bet half the pot, they both call. The turn card is J clubs. All three of us check. The river is a 3clubs. This gives me a straight, but also means a poss flush. The SB checks, the BB bets $0.20, I raise $0.80. The SB calls, the... [ Continued ]
100th Blog Extravaganza by xDiamond_CutteRx on Mon Mar 12, 2007 10:01 pm GMT
Okay, maybe that title is a little deceptive, because I don't know how much of an "extravaganza" this entry will be, but it's my 100th entry (the first of any THP blog to reach 100 entries to my knowledge), so I figured I'd better toot my own horn somehow.
This month continues to go well for me, as I'm up $1,455 just 12 days into March, and almost half way to GoldStar status on PS. Yesterday, I was playing $4/$8 Limit Hold'em with a Kill over at Cache Creek. Ran pretty cold most of the day, as I wasn't catching much, but just a few winning pots were all that was needed to profit for the day, because the game was extremely loose-passive. No real major stories for the day; my biggest winner was AK, twice from just having top pair (the later time it didn't even go to showdown), but the other time winning with Kings full of Aces for a good-sized pot. I had the button and raised after a series of limpers. I probably got about five callers and went to a [Ks Kd Js] flop. Checked to an... [ Continued ]
