The PLO Project: Day 11
Very swingy day, but I finished up about a buy-in.
Starting day balance: $315 Ending balance: $339 A few times, I got it in really good. Played a pot worth over 300 BB where I completely dominated the other guy. My Hand: [Ah Jh Tc 9c] Villain: [Ad Kh 6h 5c] Flop: [9h 8c 7h] He bet pot, I raised pot, and he called. Turn: [Qh] He checked, I bet about 3/4 pot, he raised pot, and we got it in, with him drawing completely dead. That goes to show the danger of flopping bottom straight and a second nut flush draw. Seems like a good hand, but you can really get crushed. Another hand I got it in with a set versus a naked flush draw in a 250 BB pot, that one was nice as well. An equally bad beat, where villain and I both had top two, but I had a flush draw versus a measly 6-out draw. My hand: [Ah Qs Th 8s] Villain: [Ad Td 9c 7d] Board: [As Ts 8h 2c Jd] Bleh. A few more cooler hands, such as me flopping second nut flush versus a nut flush (I still didn't go broke because my opponent played it like a complete idiot), and top set getting outdrawn by a flush draw that called a pot-sized bet on the turn (and I still laid it down, because these idiots call, call, call, and then donk bet their hands, basically playing them face up). Another hand, I flopped wrap and flush draws against a set, make my straight on the tur, THEN we get it in, and he rolls a backdoor flush on me on the river. Also, I've got it in with AAxx double-suited preflop now at least a dozen times, and lost ten of them, I shit you not. That kind of hand is pretty much a favorite over any other hand, especially if the xx is a live combo like a straight draw or a second pair. Of course I can't win a 55-45 or a 60-40 to save my life, especially against a guy who rushes to get it in with 5432 rainbow. Oh well, just have to wait for my luck to even out. I'm about 250 VPP away from Silver Star, with plenty of days left in the month. I'm enjoying what I'm doing, and really learning a lot about the game. Last night, I think I played too many hands, which probably hurt my winnings a bit, but the other people were playing so badly and stacks were so deep I started getting a little creative I guess. Before I go to Vegas, I'm probably going to play in the $9/$18 limit game at Capitol a few times to get used to the dynamics of the game again. For now, I'm planning on playing some $5/$10 kill Omaha-8 at Mirage, some $9/$18 Hold'em at the Wynn, maybe some $8/$16 at Bellagio, and perhaps some $10/$20ish mixed game at the Rio if I can find one. Those stakes will be a far cry from my 25PLO tables, but I do actually have a decent roll, and I'm mostly being careful just because I don't want a ton online and I'm still learning PLO. I think I can probably move up fast enough though that I can be at $1/$2 by the fall if I really work at it. Suit Up!
