Borgata vs. Taj

Postby markball » Tue Feb 08, 2005 2:52 pm GMT

Hey, I am heading down to AC on Saturday with a bunch of friends. I usually go about once every other month, however the only place I have played has been the Taj. We were thinking of trying out the Borgata this time.

The game I'm looking to play is a 1/2 NL Cash game. Anyone have experience playing this game at both the Taj and Borgata? The Taj usually has a decent waiting list when I go....how long is the Borgata list usually, and are there multiple games going on?

Also I have heard that skill level at the Borgata is a bit under that at the Taj. Anyone have any first hand experience with this? Also is the betting patterns significantly different at Borgata? I know at the Taj a usual preflop raise is to 12 or 15, and bets after flop being between 15 and 25 as the norm. Thanks very much.

Wow a usual preflop riase on a 1/2 table is 12 to 15 bucks? That's 7.5 times BB pretty pretty aggressive players.

Yeah well the blinds are 1/2, but they really are just there for show, and to keep the position correct. Noone really ever raises to 5 or 6. Also most of the action is preflop. On about half the hands, its easy to just limp into the pot. The other half there is usually a raise to a minimum of 10, max on an initial raise i ever saw was 17. After the flop hits though, betting gets significantly bigger.

Logic tells me that you'd run into more sharks at the Taj since it's on the boardwalk, where all the fish straggle in. The Borgata is on the Marina, so you don't have idiots just strolling in. I actually didn't play there when I went to AC two weeks ago. I played at Harrah's, and most of the time there were the typical 22 year old college kids there that thought they could pull some WSOP stuff. They found out the hard way that they couldn't. Seemed to be the same type of crowd when I checked out Borgata's poker room. *shrugs*

Right. That's what everyone says. Then they get in the poker room and get hit with a bag of what the f*ck.

I'd avoid the borgata on weekends, especially if you play low stakes. Last time I was there I had to wait an hour for a seat.

Borgata and Texas Hold'em are almost equal in their fad-ness.
