Brucio's Challenge

Postby Brucio » Wed Apr 01, 2009 2:11 pm GMT

Okay, this thread is going to function as a diary.

Some of you may have read that Jimmer has fronted me $10 to play with on Pokerstars.
I am going to use this thread to journal how it goes.

I will only be playing 1/2 cent blinds.
I will post every hand that I lose more than 20% of my stack on for you guys to review and critique.
I will also make a quick post in the " I'm online and playing right now " thread for jimmer and anyone else to watch me play every time I log on.

Hopefully I will reach $20 and return Jimmer's $10.
I think that's about it for now.

Hand 1 - min raise UTG with 99 is just horrible
Hand 2 - for the love of god just fold pre-flop

Someone tell jimmer that his $10 is gone.

why would I fold suited connectors with no raise?

because there are 5 people to act after you and they might raise. Hands like suited connectors are really played for deceptive value. You play them so an observant player who's called your 3 x bb raise from late position doesn't know if you've got AK or 45s. This way when the flop comes 67T your opponent is harder pressed to narrow your range of hands down. Plus if you do catch a piece of the flop, you might get his whole stack. HOWEVER. These sorts of hands are -EV, which means you will lose in the long run if you play them all the time. But while you lose with the individual hand by manipulating your table image you get extra value out of other hands.

People at micro stakes (on the whole) dont pay that much attention so basically your just losing money by playing these type of hands in EP. From late position it becomes playable because there are less people to act after you PF, and you will most likely be in position when the flop comes.

omg fold. The only reason to call here is a mis-click.

Please stop playing poker for the min, you wont have a BR left otherwise. I think its time for poker strategy lesson.

Just because they are the fabled 'suited connectors' does not make them playable OOP.

As for the latest hand, take Kemics advice and woah for a minute with losing jimmer's donation

Ya I see where I went wrong. I sort of ignored the K and figured quads was the only way he could beat me. But if he's shoving he's gotta have something.

and I haven't lost jimmers cash.

#1- Bad pre-flop.

#2- You played it fine- Preflop is debatable, really depends on your post flop skills and table.

#3 -Bad preflop bad on every street. Flop is bad due to bet sizing, turn call is bad, river is really terrible you not only turn your hand into a bluff you don't charge him anything to look you up and then call off your stack with a bluff catcher.

End of day 1 summary.

After playing pretty poorly and dropping down to around $7 in my first session, I have reclaimed some chips and am totaling $11.07. I am calling it a night.
