Bud Jones with Metal Inlay.. Anyone like these?
Wondering how they compare to the non metal Bud Jones? Not talking about the home game version but the used at casinos. Do they feel the same, better, not as good? Wondering if someone can give me some feedback before I decide to buy some..

I've got lots of Bud Jones coin-inlay and decal (non-coin) chips. If I remember right, adidino you have some real BJ decal chips so you know how good those feel and play.
The bottom line (to me) is that the coin-inlay chips are damn good, but not quite as good as the decal chips.
The coins do not have quite the same vacuum effect, and the outer material seems a little bit harder than the BJ decals. The decal (V7) chips have more choices in the rim and insert design, and thus usually look better.
The coin sounds a little more metallic but not cheap, and the decal sounds just about like a clay Paulson. The molded plastic material seems almost the same. But all the coin chips appear to have very sharp edges, where the decal chips seem to have a more rounded/beveled edge. They both stand on their edge, but the coin chips seem to have a sharp 90° rim. Both chips stick & stack well, and they won't fall over like a big stack of the Matsui chips.
The decal chips feel a little "softer" to me, and I like them better. They look better, they sound better, and they feel a little better, probably due to the beveled edge.
But I'd own and play the coin chips in a heartbeat. And all BJs are nearly indestructible. I'd buy these if I were in the market for a new set, though the prices are high: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 24904&rd=1

Hi all,
I stumbled in and saw you guys talkin about the Bud Jones chips I sell on eBay. Glad to see I have a happy customer. Well, I used to own all different types of chips and my craps habit has forced me to sell a lot of them.
With that said, one thing I didn't like about Bud JOins coin center chips is that the centers would fall out sometimes. The only thing holding that coin in place is a thin piece of plastic. Granted in normal play, the chips would hold up just fine. But everyone has that guy (or guys) in their game that loved to splash the pot or slam their chips in on an all-in. When that starts happening the coin centers will eventually fall out. Also, it was hard to shuffle them. IMHO, the best chips out there are the Bud JOnes decal chips.

I have to clarify a little here--I have two kinds of Bud Jones decal chips: a V6 (50-cent Oaks Club) and a V7 ($1 Borgata). The V6 is a 10.5-11.5 g chip, and must be the one tomb1 is talking about here. The V7 has a metal (brass?) insert, weighs 12.3 g, and definitely does not sound like a clay chip--more of a low-pitched, solid sound, whatever the hell that means. . . Gads, I'm such a geek. . . just shoot me now. . .tomb1 wrote:The coin sounds a little more metallic but not cheap, and the decal sounds just about like a clay Paulson.

P.S. Deckard, I was talking about the V7 chips when I mentioned the sound. I'm a chip geek too, and I like the solid thud -- and that's what I meant when I said they sounded like real clay chips (which is a good thing) versus cheaper chips. But to each his own on how things sound.... Go to pokerchipreviews.com and listen to the sound of the real Bud Jones movie vs. the Paulson movie and other types of chips.

I told you to shoot me, not continue to feed the monster. . .sigh. . .pocket snowmen wrote:could you post pics of the 2 different types of bud jones chips? (v6, v7)
Anyway, the V6 is lighter than the V7 (I imagine there is no metal insert in the V6). When I drop the chips on a hardwood tabletop, the V6 has a much higher-pitched click than does the V7. The V6's sound is similar to the sound of an old $1 Sunset Station TH&C Paulson that I have. The V7's sound is totally different: deeper, solid, precise, like slamming a BMW door. Also, notice how the last two Hollywood Park chips' (with the beveled edges) decals align with the mold design. This is no fluke, both sides of these chips are identical. They are both older than the non-beveled Hollywood Park chip, which has a random decal orientation like the Oaks and Borgata. I wonder if quality/attention to detail has declined at Bud Jones recently?

Not to make things anymore confusing but the V7 Decal A Max chips I have don't weigh the advertised 12-14 grams shown on the GPI website. They definitely weigh around 10.5 (actually 10.66) each. The Decal C chips I own do weigh around 12.4 grams.
But the Max chips were made around 2001 right before the merger with Paulson. Maybe, thats why the weights don't coincide. Also, the plastic on the Borgata chips differ somewhat from the Decal A Max chips. The borgata chips seem more glossy and more like plastic. The Decal A max chips are more of a matte finish and don't seem so plastic. However, the Decal C Max chip plastic is a lot like that of the Borgata chip in appearance and feel.
Below is a pic of the chips I am referring to. The Top two are Decal A. And the bottom is Decal C.

Yup, there's nothin like the feel of those old fashioned BJ V7s, especially the A decal where there's a wide rim of that slightly-rubbery plastic. Those Max's or the Dodge City's or any of the real casinos that invest in the good stuff. The new ones like decal C just aren't quite the same.
