Buy in info please
So Im new to the forum and have read alot already. I have some skill but have yet to ever hit a casino for some real game. I plan to hit a table for the 1st time before the first of the year. My question: what amount do i buy in with? I'm not lookin to blow my wad the first time. But i dont want to buy to low to where i just get pushed around by a tall stack. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Against good players you are best buying in as a short stack, this will make your post flop decisions easier. Just play big cards with your short stack until you get a feel for the game. Short stack would be around 50 big blinds or thereabouts.

I always try to buy in for table minimum at live ring games. Less to lose and easier decisions. Not hard to build a stack from minimum buy in. Plus it makes you look weak. If you are not weak looking weak is great.
Draw backs are not being able to push players off their draws. or getting 2 many callers when you ship with AA or KK which can be nice if they hold up.

That sentence tells me that you are definitely weak. Scared money is never going to win.

Yes I am weak. I have been playing $1/$1NL at a jai lai poker room for the last 6 months. In school full time. And am making 150-400 a week playing poker. I am not a great player, may not even be a good player, but I am a winning player. Not this week though went on tilt yesterday and dumped $300 after only winning $20-$40 per session this week .
When I play at higher limits with better players I don't do as well so I stick to low limits and keep practicing. Maybe after another 4 months I will move up to $2-$5NL. All in all I haven't had to work in 6 months and all my bills are paid so I have to be doing something a little bit right.
It isn't scared money it is my strategy. I know the limit I play I know that a lot of loose player play at this game so I prefer having a lower out of pocket dollar amount so when my Big PP gets cracked and I am AI it doesn't hurt as much.
There is many different ways to play poker. There isn't one way to play right . If you are winning consistently you are playing right. Be it Tag or Lag or passive. It all boils down to you.
