BUY INS?
Sorry guys and gals, new to tournaments, yet am playing my first one in the UK in a couple of weeks (no limit Texas Holdem). Read loads, watched loads, and played loads with family and friends, so am a novice! However I want to try and understand the structure of tournaments as much as possible before going in it.
Could someone please elaborate on the significance of "unlimited buyins for the first hour", and also tell me if it effects peoples style of play within that hour? I cant seem to get my mind around the concept.
I assume that it means people can rebuy their starting quota of chips, which seams a bit silly to me, bearing in mind the principle of tournament play is to knockout the opponents.
Also, does it mean people are more likely to play aggressively within that hour, calling as many 'All-Ins' as possible? (knowing that they can re-buy?)
Any advice would be appreciated.
Also, If any UK players are going to "The Holdem 100 Poker Tournament" in London, id really appreciate hearing any comments.
Cheers,
Nicky

The only poker room I know of that does this is UB. If your chips are at or below the starting amount (1000) then you can throw in another buy-in and get 1000 more chips. Also, at the end of that rebuy hour, you have a chance to pay the buy-in one last time for 1000 more chips no matter how many you have (called an add-on). I would think people with large bankrolls would take more risks knowing they will have another chance. One downside to it, you could rebuy a bunch of times, and even if you finish in the money, you can still lose. I haven't actually played a rebuy tournament, just read about them.

Yeah rebuys last a limited time and u can't just add to ur stack, it has to be depleted below a certain level. Some tourneys also have an 'add-on' where at the end of the rebuy period, u can add a single rebuy to ur stack regardless of it's size.
The one I want some1 to explain fully is freezeouts. I've come across it a number of times and need clarification!
When is this tourney Nicky? I'm 30 miles from London so am quite tempted right now. Can u gimme some details either here or thru PM?

Cheers for that.
The tourney I mentioned was last week actually. It is the Uk's largest Texas Holdem competition, which is held every year. It was a fantastic event, and I was pleased to survive 3 hours before getting knocked out.
The web site for this event is detailed below. I learned absolutely loads, and have now totally addicted to this fantastic psychological game.
ps: If anyone in the UK knows of any tournaments (rather than cash games at casinos) could you let me know.
cheers
