Call or not?

Postby HalfSugar » Sun Jun 28, 2009 9:03 pm GMT

Level 4 of a $10 deepstack tourney on Stars. I'm in the SB at 50/100 with KQs, three limpers before me so I make it 525 to go and all three call. Narrative below:

PokerStars Game #29877110790: Tournament #173033922, $10+$1 Hold'em No Limit - Level IV (50/100) - 2009/06/28 13:47:05 ET
Table '173033922 108' 9-max Seat #1 is the button
Seat 1: 1ronchip (8658 in chips)
Seat 2: GenoTHP (8718 in chips)
Seat 3: browi555 (10725 in chips)
Seat 4: leyzrp (4407 in chips)
Seat 5: joejoe82 (6016 in chips)
Seat 6: goumi (5970 in chips)
Seat 7: Digthis7 (3800 in chips)
Seat 8: Pinoteman (16756 in chips)
Seat 9: Royno1 (5026 in chips)
GenoTHP: posts small blind 50
browi555: posts big blind 100
*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to GenoTHP [Kc Qc]
leyzrp: calls 100
joejoe82: calls 100
goumi: folds
Digthis7: folds
Pinoteman: folds
Royno1: folds
1ronchip: calls 100
GenoTHP: raises 425 to 525
browi555: folds
leyzrp: calls 425
joejoe82: calls 425
1ronchip: calls 425
*** FLOP *** [5d 7h Js] (pot 2,200)

Big brick on the flop but I have to c-bet it:

GenoTHP: bets 1100
leyzrp: calls 1100
joejoe82: calls 1100
1ronchip: folds
*** TURN *** [5d 7h Js] [5c] (pot 5,500)

Ejector seat now at the ready seeing as that did nothing! Can't fire again, snap fold coming.....

GenoTHP: checks
leyzrp: checks
joejoe82: checks
*** RIVER *** [5d 7h Js 5c] [Qh] (pot 5,500)

Bizarre check round and now I've caught a queen. Still obv check and reassess:

GenoTHP: checks
leyzrp: bets 2782 and is all-in
joejoe82: folds
GenoTHP: ???

I hit the time button to have a think. What's your move? Results later.

thinking about it I can see QJ sticking around or A5 rearing his head
if you call you still have about 5000 left, I can talk myself in to it.

flop is really bad 4way in a 10$ tourney. I think i'd call the river pretty quickly, but i dont know how happy i am about it

I wouldn't be C-betting this flop into 3 players, it hits almost none of your range so you are trying to sell an overpair.

I'm calling this river.

This might be a close decision in regular mtt,but in a deep stack, people will give away chips when you're certain your good. The blinds are 30 minutes and you have a sick amount of play for an online mtt.
Although that could be a case for calling too, since looking at it , you'll still have around 5k i think if u lose.

I dunno andy, any hand he's betting for value has us beat here. I hate coming out and repeatedly looking like a nit lol. But it is true, any hand he's betting for value has us beat. So then you have to ask yourself can he maybe taking a shot here with an 89 or something.

I guess it's possible he has 77 or QJ, I don't know what I'm doing here for sure tbh. You're hand is under-repped I guess, since the overpair notion is out the door when you check turn typically.

If you call and lose you can come back though with this clock.

And yeah like everyone said, cbetting here multiway is pretty bad.

Hmm, I guess I agree about the c-bet but it just seems really dumb to raise pre and then check/give up without any sort of resistance on the flop. Granted the flop does miss my range realistically but it just seems like very passive play. Then again, 1/2 potting it into three players is not exactly great

Basically after tanking for quite a while and looking at the size of the call/my stack and call/pot, I decided that AJ and KJ were parts of his range enough times to justify calling. I think if I had players to act behind and/or he had a few more chips (maybe even 3,750 would be enough) I would fold without too much hesitation because I am beating so little.

GenoTHP: calls 2782
*** SHOW DOWN ***
leyzrp: shows [4h Jh] (two pair, Jacks and Fives)
GenoTHP: shows [Kc Qc] (two pair, Queens and Fives)
GenoTHP collected 11064 from pot
*** SUMMARY ***
Total pot 11064 | Rake 0
Board [5d 7h Js 5c Qh]
Seat 1: 1ronchip (button) folded on the Flop
Seat 2: GenoTHP (small blind) showed [Kc Qc] and won (11064) with two pair, Queens and Fives
Seat 3: browi555 (big blind) folded before Flop
Seat 4: leyzrp showed [4h Jh] and lost with two pair, Jacks and Fives
Seat 5: joejoe82 folded on the River
Seat 6: goumi folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 7: Digthis7 folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 8: Pinoteman folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 9: Royno1 folded before Flop (didn't bet)
