Can someone help me please? Building a table..

Postby Triad » Sat Mar 13, 2004 5:06 pm GMT

I am trying to put together a table like this and I need help figuring out how the legs are hinged like they are.

Can anyone tell from these pictures how this was done?

i'm no woodworker... but seems to me that would have to be some sort of pin hinge thing... smak dab in the center of each of those legs. like a pivot basically in the middle of each leg there.

the center piece probably has some sort of normal hinge (maybe a piano)... so what you do is turn the leg and move it to the upright position and then fold down that center piece to hold things in place.

seems like a pain to me. if i were to make legs like this for a table... i'd just add a 1" (or 3/4... or whatever the thickness of that center peice is) strips to the botton of the table for the two main legs. i'd hinge my legs off of those strips.... and i'd hinge the center piece directly from the table. that way you fold the center piece up (to one side) and then each leg would fold up (twowards the center) and lay on top of the center piece.

hard to describe... probably made very little sense.

You accually helped out quite a bit.

Between the 3 of us we were able to work something off of your idea.

Everything is cut out and we are going to try the legs tommorrow...laquer the bottom table peice and hopefully get everything done so all that will be left is the felt and padding.

From this link the pic on the left looks as though they're not attached to the table.

I just built one a bit different but if you have minimal carpentry skills, you can do it for around 100 dollars
Pictures will be on my site in the morning

its odd you asked about that table. We just made one very similar but we have cut outs of the suits on the legs and the support across the middle, its in the process of being painted.

Also instead of the legs as they are on that site, we have them collapsing into the table so its all one piece as for weight its close to 70lbs right now. Ill post pics of both tables when the last one is finished.
