Card protectors for live casino and home game play opinions-
Quite a few of you have purchased or been interested in custom designed dealer buttons and card protectors, so I thought I'd post a quick update and show you what we've been up to! Very cool stuff. The brass and steel buttons have the brass pressed permanently through the button. We can custom make just about anything you want. I've been making the card protectors in varying thicknesses, from .2" to .25" to reduce the weight a little from the dealer button size. I've also updated my site with some new information at http://www.dealerbuttons.com. I'm always around the board so feel free to reply here!
Here's some that I've done in the last couple weeks.. let me know what you think!

Who me?!?
Well I haven't posted any new products in over a month and just wanted to show a couple of the boards what was new. You won't see me post here but every 1-3 months. I don't want to flood you guys obviously, but want to show off some stuff that I'm proud of. It's the same thing mothers do with pictures of their 3 month old
And yes, you busted me.

i hate to be the idiot... but what exactly is a card protector? I could see the need for a dealer button, but im guessing that the card protector is just for vanity's sake.
just wondering.

It's a valid question..
Good question... people that play live often like something to set on their hole cards to keep them from being accidentally picked up by the dealer as mucked or folded (happens more often that you'd think in casinos!) and to keep them from accidentally brushing or showing a card. This would obviously be a bad thing when you have $$$ in the pot!
Otherwise, we make them custom as pictured to double as a good luck charm, with the person's preferred image, quote, initials, family crest, whatever they want.
So it actually serves a purpose, but also serves as a token of good fortune. I only started making these because of the great demand from casino players. Since then they've become some of the nicest pieces we've made.
Take care,
Adam

most places will tell you that you should "protect" your cards at all time. i guess that means that they aren't responsible if some force of nature or act of god flips your cards over for the table to see.
so, generally speaking, most players put something on their cards. i think the majority of players use a chip or stack of chips... but those who can afford to do so and like neat little trinkets would happily get one of these card protectors and us it instead.

Gotcha. I wasnt scoffing at the idea, just wasnt sure of the necessity. I am, however, thinking of ordering either the dealer button or protector as a gift for my father... he's a hold'em nut, plays about 4 nights a week.

Well spend some time and think about something that he might find lucky and enjoy... I'm working on a brass Moosehead, horseshoes, heart, spade, shamrock, you name it. We can do the brass either flush with the button or raised as shown in some of the pictures.
Shoot me an e-mail and we'll arrange something unique for him.
Take care,
Adam

well, he hosts a game every wed. and goes to various tourneys and home games (essentially there is about 2 good games a day where he's at, but only has time for 3 or 4 a week).
i was thinking of getting both a dealer button and a protector (so he could have something when he goes elsewhere).
Any chance of getting the Detroit Tiger's "D" put on the protector in brass?

A million different protectors out there, as many as players. Got to admit some of those would be really cool.
What I use is a $500 or $1000 chip. I collect high denomination chips from actual casinos--boy those babies are real game stoppers. Even the dealers can't resist and ask to see them. I've even sold some right at the table. They ARE cool!

ooh, that gives me a good idea. What about having a $1000 denom. chip inlayed in the card protector?
That would be nice
