Cash Game Rules
What is the general rule on showing your cards in a cash game. I know in a tournament your cards would be mucked. But i saw on High Stake Poker on TV that this is allowed. Is this common or all cash games or is it just house rules.

Show them when? After the river card is dealt and all the betting is done? Or during a hand?
If it is during a hand in a tourney they don't necessarily get mucked. It's really up to the house. Some may not allow it. Some may. Some may only allow it when it is heads up only. In some places if the cards touch the muck they are dead regardless if they are shown or not.
Same things generally apply cash games.
Personally at my house and those I help run we don't allow cards being shown on purpose unless it is heads up. Doesn't matter if it is in a tourney or cash game.
If it is an accident so be it and play on but make sure everyone sees it that is in so not to give someone an unfair advantage. They are only mucked if they hit the muck or the person says fold.
But like I said YMMV.

The most common rule is that when headsup, either player may reveal as much information about their hand as they wish. This could include revealing the cards face up, or simply telling your lone opponent what you have. Some casinos/house games don't like this rule, and I've been in casinos where any revealed cards, even in a cash game, have a penalty attached to it. Some places have a rule that if you show one of your cards to the table, they will reveal your second one for you, as well. This is a house-specific rule. Ask.
