Cash games v Tourneys - Can you excel at both?
The topic of the week seems to be the issue surrounding Ciso’s issues adapting to the cash games. We all know Ciso regularly cashes in the tourneys, but for one reason or another can not transfer this success to the cash tables.
This also comes at a time where I’m thinking of giving tourneys ago. Due to my lifestyle, I have never had the luxury of knowing I can dedicate x-amount of hours to a game without being interrupted, so have traditionally always found cash tables more accommodating. Due to a change in my circumstances, I no longer have this issue, so am toying with the idea of spending some time developing my tourney play.
So, looking at the subject of cash games v tourneys, the questions I have are;
1. How far apart are the two games?
2. Can you really excel at both?

1- yes they are quite far apart imo
2- yes u can excel at both.
I like the idea in cash, u can sit, play, break, chill, play etc...and not HAVE to sit and play for hours on end.
Also, for me, its not that i hate cash or think im terrible, i just have to appreciate certain facts of the game, like you're not gonna book a win every session and its still a long term game.

1) yes
2) yes
I think the problem for most is that they see NL Holdem as just that. They do not understand the differences between tournament poker and cash game poker. This is probably the reason why many can play one form of the game and suck at the other.
