I will update this thread as I go to let you know if this is a credible offer/dealer or not.

That's a decent chip at an unbelievable price. I personally don't care for the "texture" finish, but if you want to get into hosting tounaments, you can put your chip stash together for a fraction of what I paid. You can have players sit down with 60 or 100 chips in front of them. People really like that. It's also nice to have plenty of chips around for rebuys, so you aren't messing around with making change and whatnot. I don't like using expensive chips for my tournaments anyway. Seems like a couple of them always manage to get lost.

ya... it was pretty much a price issue for me. i simply couldn't afford the number of chips i needed had i been forced to pay more.

i'll see how they are when they show up next week. hopefully they're decent chips.

i personally would have prefered to get some with the white striping on the edges. i really like how that looks. i'm not sure if there's a name for that type of chip or not...

but those cost $$ and i didn't have that kind of $$ to spend...

oh well!

The side stripes on the chips are called "edge spots." Came about quite a while back on casino chips to make chips a lot harder to counterfit. They are cool-looking. Ratchets up the cost of making them a lot though. For instance, PaulSon top hat and canes (back when they sold to the public) were about 60 to 75 cents each as solid color chips. Adding edge spots pushed the cost up over a dollar.

These Chinese chips are all injection molded, but even that gets a lot more complicated with two color (edge spot) chips, and the price bump is legit.

thanks for the history... i never did know the real reason... figured it was just looks. after all, everything in the casino needs to be flashy right! the anti-counterfit thing though makes perfect sense.

maybe if i win a few of my home games i'll be able to afford to upgrade my chips!

Watch out!

You sound just like me before I started collecting. I was "Okay, these are fine, they'll do...but, Wow, those other ones are really great...." Thought, like you, Hey, I can always upgrade with my winnings.

And that's just what I did....spent about $1200 of my first real serious poker money on chips. Now I've got almost 4000 chips. Well, actually I ended up giving my first 1000 Chinese chips to my son because he was borrowing them all the time anyway, so I'm back down to just over 3000 chips. How will I ever get by?

Don't let that chip bug bite you in the ass like it did me. Eats up all your poker money.

well...heres a heads up. They're out of White and Red until mid march

instead of saying this up front, they wait until you've processed your credit card then tell you via an email. I never actually got the email (probably due to my company locking down the mail servers due to the virus). but anyways, i had to email them 2x before they told me this again. not happy, but it gives me an excuse to by more chips in a few months...next time through 5star though.

These guys must use the same supplier as 5star as they too are out of red and white until mid-march.

i will say this though: they respond quicly. I've sent and recieved 3 emails from this place in the last 30 minutes. They did offer to ship out when the chips became available. but like i said last post, it gives me an excuse to use when my wife asks me why i'm buying more chips.

the good thing is that she also plays!

how many red's did you order.

i placed my order for 500 blue, 100 red, and 100 green on jan 31 and although they didn't email me with a recpt. of any kind, when i emailed them to ask a couple days later they emailed me back in like 5 minutes with my UPS tracking number.

i'm gonna be ticked if my order doesn't have my 100 red chips.

if they use the same supplier as 5star...your safe. the other day they had 600 red in stock. yesterday they had em marked out of stock. (on 5star that is). and i'm guessing that they would have told you otherwise like they did with me. all in all this seller doesnt seem that bad.

UPDATE

got my chips today... funny thing... i ordered them from the company listed in the link in the first post here... [removed: terrible seller] is the name of the place. the box arrived today, and guess who's name and logo is on the box?!?!

5stardeals.com

i got a chuckle out of that. not sure what the deal is there... they both charge the same, so i'm not quite understanding the two company names.

anyway... the packaging was great... the chips are decent. considering what i paid for the, i wasn't expecting anything out of this world. they're good enough for a begining set and will work just fine for my home games. if i upgrade it will only be because i like to upgrade things and not out of necessity. lol.

i paid 4.50 for one of their dealer buttons... what i got was not what i was anticipating. i'm don't know if there's a "regulation" size for the dealer buttons, but what i got was a lot smaller than what i was expecting. it's a 2" diameter 1/4" thick puck. seems pretty solid... but quite anti-climatic considering what i thought i was getting.

the trays, on the other hand, are VERY nice. i got 7 of the standard plastic trays... i was thinking they'd be a cheapo plastic, but they're a fairly solic acrylic and quite nice quality wise. i was impressed.

overall i'm happy with my purchase... i'll get one of those fancy dealer buttons the member here is selling and i'll be set!
